Protectors are a sub-group in the Alternity portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Though not hyper-dimensional beings themselves, the agents known as Protectors serve the ascendant Alternity in situations too sensitive to allow dispatching an auto-avatar. These agents safeguard timelines, particularly Primax 903.0 Beta, where their patrons originated.

Optimus Primal was sent by the Alternity to prevent the destruction of the timeline that birthed their species. Primal successfully stabilized the universal stream as a splinter timeline, in spite of the efforts of many agents provocateur.
