: The Throttlebot Goldbug was released in 1987, and like the other Throttlebots, he has a pull-back motor and a simple transformation. The vehicle mode was not designed to look like a penny racer, as the original toy was, so its variation on the Volkswagen Beetle was much more realistically-proportioned. Though the other Throttlebots seem to have always been intended to be new characters, Goldbug's head was based directly on that of Bumblebee's original toy.
:This toy was reissued in Europe in 1991 as part of the Classics reissues, along with the rest of the Throttlebots. The toy was retooled to remove the rubsign indent, the heat-sensitive decal proper replaced with a glossy-paper faction symbol.

* IDW's incarnation of Goldbug is unique, in that he's not a rebuilt Bumblebee.
* This version of Goldbug is, of course, based off of the original Throttlebot Goldbug, only this time he is not a rebuilt Bumblebee.
