Nelson Shin (申奈舜, b. 1939) is a South Korean animator and animation director. He was the producer of the original Transformers cartoon and the director of The Transformers: The Movie, and is the founder and owner of the Korean animation studio AKOM. It might not be a coincidence that animation duties of the cartoon were shifted more and more from Toei to AKOM as the series progressed.
More recently, he recorded a DVD commentary for the movie alongside Susan Blu and Flint Dille.
In an interview with CNN Talk Asia Shin gave in 2007, the interviewer seems to incorrectly imply that Shin created the Transformers series from scratch. Shin's answer doesn't really connect to the point of the question, referring to things like animation designs and color codings instead.[1]
