Petra is a place in Jordan, where the Dynasty of Primes hid the Matrix of Leadership long ago.
Fiction
Revenge of the Fallen movie
Following The Fallen's attempt to activate the solar harvester on Earth, the faithful Primes realized that they had to hide the Matrix from their treacherous brother, or Earth and its sentient inhabitants would all die. Making the ultimate sacrifice, the Primes formed a tomb made of their own bodies in what would later be known as Petra. The Tomb of the Primes was then further hidden when the human natives built a structure surrounding it.
Thousands of years later, Sam Witwicky, who held the knowledge of the All Spark in his mind, was guided to the structure in Petra where the Tomb was supposed to be located. Not finding anything, the Autobot twins Skids and Mudflap began arguing, which naturally escalated from verbal abuse to physical abuse, damaging the structure around them. After Bumblebee threw the fighting twins out, Sam noticed that there were Cyberglyphics etched behind a fresco in the structure.
