Petra is a place in Jordan, where the Dynasty of Primes hid the Matrix of Leadership long ago.

Fiction

Revenge of the Fallen film

"This is intolerable!"

Following The Fallen's attempt to activate the Star Harvester on Earth, the faithful Primes realized that they had to hide the Matrix from their treacherous brother, or Earth and its sentient inhabitants would all die. Making the ultimate sacrifice, the Primes formed a tomb made of their own bodies in what would later be known as Petra. The Tomb of the Primes was then further hidden when the human natives built a structure surrounding it.

"They chose... poorly."

Thousands of years later, Sam Witwicky, who held the knowledge of the AllSpark in his mind, was guided to the structure in Petra where the Tomb was supposed to be located. Not finding anything, the Autobot twins Skids and Mudflap began arguing, which naturally escalated from verbal abuse to physical abuse, damaging the structure around them. After Bumblebee threw the fighting twins out, Sam noticed that there were Cyberglyphics etched behind a fresco in the structure. Bumblebee immediately made a larger opening with his plasma cannon, revealing the Tomb of the Primes, and the Matrix of Leadership...which immediately crumbled to dust. Oops. Revenge of the Fallen

• Steven Spielberg also filmed in Petra for [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade|{{#if:||Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade}}]] twenty years before his protégé Bay did. However, Revenge of the Fallen filmed at [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Ad Deir|{{#if:El Deir|El Deir|Ad Deir}}]] ("The Monastery") rather than [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Al Khazneh|{{#if:||Al Khazneh}}]] ("The Treasury") from Indiana Jones. Rather kindly, as shown on the DVD, Bay took his mother to visit the location.
• Revenge of the Fallen's depiction of Egypt and Jordan, more specifically the pyramids and Petra, is somewhat different compared to the real world: in the real world the pyramids are located on the Giza plateau 80 miles (129 kilometres) from the coast of the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Gulf of Suez|{{#if:||Gulf of Suez}}]], which forms the most northern part of the western [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Red Sea|{{#if:||Red Sea}}]]. In the film however, the location of the pyramids is repeatedly stated in dialogue and shown via maps to be in the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Gulf of Aqaba|{{#if:||Gulf of Aqaba}}]], the most northern part of the eastern Red Sea. Specifically on the most northern shore 3 miles to the west. Likewise the location of Petra also differs between fiction and reality: the real Petra is located roughly 60 miles (96 kilometres) north of the Gulf of Aqaba but in the film it is presented as being in the coastal mountains just to the east of the gulf.
