With a brand as large as Transformers, it is surprising how few video games have been produced for it. Further, around half of those were released solely for the Japanese market. And from the remaining, the largest part are from the live action movies.

In the '90s, a game based on Generation 2 was supposedly in development for the Super NES console, but the project was dropped. This is supported by Vortex being made by Argonaut Software (the company that was supposed to release the G2 game), the fact that the game involved a polygon-based transforming robot, and the timing of the release.


In the December of 2009 it was announced that a new video game called "Transformers: War for Cybertron". The story is based on cybertron (pre-earth)and this completely original story will feature characters such as Optimus, Megatron, Ironhide, Ratchet, Soundwave, Bumblebee, Omega Supreme, star scream and many more. This game will be released for ps3, 360, PC and a different game with the same title for ds and wii in late fall or winter 2010.
