He's not smug, he just photographs that way!

Andy Schmidt is a comic book writer and Senior Editor for IDW Publishing, as well as a pretty frequent goofer. But he's doing his best to improve.

Before working for IDW, he was an editor at Marvel Comics, where he handled most titles under the "Marvel Heroes" brand as well as numerous of their top titles, and oversaw the multi-title "Annihilation" crossover event.

He moved to IDW Publishing in 2008, starting out editing their G.I. Joe and Star Trek titles before leaving Star Trek to work on the Transformers brand, first as co-editor, and then taking over as full editor when Denton J. Tipton moved on to other projects. To say that he was overwhelmed with how obsessive Transfans are with the continuity would be an understatement.

He also owns and teaches at the Comics Experience school of comics in California.

I'm just constantly surprised at how you guys keep track of all this stuff. It's really impressive. And yes, it's a part of my job, but it's not how my brain works naturally.
