Defenders are a body-type in the War for Cybertron portion of the Aligned continuity family.
You don't need to hit their back anymore.

Defenders are the next step beyond melee specialists. While defenders employ many of the same tactics, they have one thing the melee specialists lack: a shield. This makes them more likely to get close enough to you so they can hit you with the massive hammer they carry. The force of their hammer blow is enough to knock most foes on their tailpipes.

Fiction

War for Cybertron

Defenders were common during the Great War. Transformers: War for Cybertron

Notes

  • The guards in Kaon Prison resemble defenders but carry swords instead of hammers, so it's unclear if they fall into the same class.
