- Merrick is a human from the cartoon portion of the Generation 1 Continuity family.
Merrick is a field archeologist. He makes bets with his female colleague, Joan, on who'll uncover something first at a dig site, and is an expert on Mayan space technology.

Though he claimed that he'd won his $10 bet with Joan, his discovery was promptly overshadowed by Joan uncovering the back end of a Decepticon space cruiser. His assertion that the Mayans didn't have spacecraft was promptly ignored.
Before the team could open the space craft, the Decepticons, alerted by a television news report, arrived to retrieve the Heart of Cybertron. The archeology team escaped in their jeeps. Microbots
