The Autobot Code is a document from the Earthforce portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Everyone's a critic.

Though its origins are unknown, as are indeed its precise contents[1], the Autobot Code comprises a set of principles and rules that govern Autobot behavior. Its reach is not universal, however, as some Autobots have completely abandoned its tenets when they felt the situation demanded it. Printed in Transformer-sized book form, it allegedly advocates a policy of non-violence.

Fiction

Generation One

Marvel Comics UK continuity

These stories do not fit into the normal Marvel continuity. See Earthforce for details.

Optimus Prime interrupted a battle between the Dinobots and Shockwave's forces to reprimand Grimlock, claiming his violent tactics were contrary to the Autobot Code. Two Steps Back! Grimlock subsequently quit the Autobots and established the Earthforce, with Prime's blessing conditional on the promise that Grimlock would exercise restraint. Break-Away!

Later, in a speech to rally his troops, Grimlock parodied the Autobot Code's policy of avoiding violence wherever possible, pointing out that the Decepticons weren't about to give up their evil conquering ways just because of a few friendly words over a glass of oil. The Earthforce agreed with him and unanimously abandoned the Autobot Code in favour of doing things their own way. Once upon a Time...

IDW continuity

Topspin sarcastically suggested that the secret goal of the Wreckers' mission on Garrus-9 could be the uncensored version of the Autobot Code. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 4

Transformers Animated

The Autobot Code gave the Guilds Domesticus the right to direct the Autobot military, a fact which Sentinel Prime groused about. Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II

Footnotes
