Everyone's a critic.

Though its origins are unknown, as are indeed its precise contents,<ref>Topspin lists "a fully sequenced cyber-genome, the uncensored Autobot Code, or a Roadmap to Peace" among the 'holy grails' of their expedition in Last Stand of the Wreckers #4.</ref> the Autobot Code comprises a set of principles and rules that govern Autobot behavior. Its reach is not universal, however, as some Autobots have completely abandoned its tenets when they felt the situation demanded it. Printed in Transformer-sized book form, it allegedly advocates a policy of non-violence.

Optimus Prime interrupted a battle between the Dinobots and Shockwave's forces to reprimand Grimlock, claiming his violent tactics were contrary to the Autobot Code. Two Steps Back! Grimlock subsequently quit the Autobots and established the Earthforce, with Prime's blessing conditional on the promise that Grimlock would exercise restraint. Break-Away!

Later, in a speech to rally his troops, Grimlock parodied the Autobot Code's policy of avoiding violence wherever possible, pointing out that the Decepticons weren't about to give up their evil conquering ways just because of a few friendly words over a glass of oil. The Earthforce agreed with him and unanimously abandoned the Autobot Code in favour of doing things their own way. Once upon a Time...
