Energon
- Downshift (Deluxe, 2004)
- Japanese ID number: SC-19
Downshift is a Powerlinx Deluxe Autobot released in the 4th quarter of 2004.
Downshift's alternate mode is a white sports car (not based on any production car) with red and green stripes evoking generation one Wheeljack. The car features opening gullwing doors and transparent red front and side glass. The back "window" is an opaque green with a louvered texture. The front end treatment is in a knife edge style like current Cadillac automobiles.
Downshift's robot mode is also an hommage. Most obvious is his head, which has "ears" and a mouth gaurd like Wheeljack. There is also a simmulated car roof on his chest. In robot mode Downshift is very well armed. In addition to his hand held weapons, a double barrel "shotgun" and a springloaded "laser missle", he has two guns on either shoulder.
Packaging is standard red card Energon Bubble. On the card's reverse is a photo of Downshift in both robot and sports car modes. The photos show opaque red windows on the car, making it possibly a prototype toy. There are differences in the robot's detailing too as the legs and chest feature more green details than the actual toy. These are reflected in the tech spec trading card also included.
Universe
- Downshift (Deluxe, 2005)
Universe Downshift is a re-deco of Energon Downshift. Released as a KB Toys exclusive in 2005.
Mostly the same as Energon Downshift, Universe Downshift is white and prominently features a tampo printed Autobot symbol on his hood.
His robot form is almost idendtical to Energon Downshift with the exception of yellow replacing green on his upper legs and fore-arms.
Cybertron
- Downshift (Deluxe, 2006)
Cybertron Downshift is a new mold replacing Energon Downshift and was released in the first quarter of 2006.
Cybertron Downshift is a green sports car with styling heavily influenced by the Chrysler pony cars from 1970 through 1974. The car features a black hood and a texturing like vinyl roof applications from the 1960's and 70's. The windows are tinted yellow. The Cybertron Earth Planet Key (inserted in a slot in the rear window) activates a claw from the car's grill. There are spring loaded missle launchers that can be mounted on the quarter panels.
Cybertron Downshift transforms into a medium size robot, slightly shorter than his predecessor. He is mostly green but receiving black fore-arms, shins and feet with gray thighs and hands. His head is quite similar to Energon Downshift who in turn was modeled after generation one Wheeljack. The spring loaded missile launchers can be shoulder mounted. It should also be noted that the Cybertron Key gimmick functions in robot mode too.
Packaged in Deluxe Cybertron Bubble.
