Most of the Wings Universe stories are set in Cybertron's distant past, at the outbreak of the Great War. They establish that there was an Autobot Elite Guard at that time, from whose winged insignia the title is derived. Some action also occurs in a nebulously modern setting, but so far only as a framing device. In one of those instances, Nexus Prime declares that this universe has some sort of importance to him and his quest, though he doesn't know exactly what.
The Wings Universe stories take place in a timestream very similar to the Generation 1 cartoon continuity.  The stories dance around the events of the cartoon, creating additional backstory and sometimes plugging plotholes. Wings doesn't take place in the actual cartoon universe, however, only a nigh-identical universe. Differences include the designs of some of the characters.  Transformers like Scourge, Ironhide, and Ratchet are in their BotCon toy bodies, while Galvatron and Cyclonus are in their Universe bodies.  The events of the cartoon are said to have happened largely unaltered except for characters such as these having different appearances.

In broad strokes this continuity hews to the universe of the original cartoon, but the series creators have declared that it will diverge in some details. For example, the fact that the young Elite Guardsman Kup is surrounded mostly by characters who never appeared in the cartoon helps avoid problems of relative age... but there are still a few questionable cases.

Overview

Most of the Wings Universe stories so far are set in Cybertron's distant past, at the outbreak of the Great War. They establish that there was an Autobot Elite Guard at that time, from whose winged insignia the title is derived. Some action also occurs in modern times on Earth, following "The Rebirth," featuring characters from late Generation 1 and Generation 2.

 • 8,999,990 years ago through 2007 AD
 • 2010 AD
