The S.S. Vicuna is a prototype submarine from the Hearts of Steel portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The brainchild of inventor Tobias Muldoon, the S.S. Vicuna was the result of an early attempt to create a vessel capable of operating both above and beneath water.

Fiction

Hearts of Steel

Hoping to impress Mark Twain and Jules Verne with his invention, Muldoon arranged to meet them near a buoy in San Francisco Bay. When they arrivied aboard the paddle steamer Enterprise, the Vicuna surfaced and Muldoon stepped out to show off his work. Unfortunately, the submarine developed a fault and sank, financially ruining the inventor, though it obviously left a lasting impression on Verne.

When it reached the bottom of the bay, the S.S. Vicuna came to rest on a transparent dome, beneath which lay the Decepticon Skywarp. Hearts of Steel #1

Notes

  • The Vicuna appears to have been named after the vicuña, a South American camelid.
