- Cindersaur is a Decepticon Firecon from the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Autobots would say that most Decepticons have a screw or two loose mentally, but Cindersaur is missing at least a bucket full. A volatile combination of pyromania and stupidity, it is suspected that, in his function as a Firestorm Trooper, he inhaled a good bit more smoke than his systems could handle and permanently damaged much of his cerebro-circuitry. With one of the lowest intelligence ratings ever recorded for a sentient robot, Cindersaur needs to burn a path of destruction everywhere he goes just to have a chance of finding his way home.
When not burning various things (especially Autobots) to ashes he relaxes by drinking volcanic lava and taking flame baths to ease his aching joints.
Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity

Cindersaur and the Firecons were sent to Earth, on behalf of their superiors on Cybertron, to make contact with the future Decepticon known as Galvatron. They found a squad of Autobot Sparkler Mini-Bots keeping tabs on Galvatron in the Florida Keys, and decided to burn away the competition. Cindersaur set Fizzle on fire, sending him into the ocean waters and blissful unconsciousness. He was apparently overcome in battle by Guzzle, though, and Galvatron ended up rejecting the Firecons' offer anyway. Enemy Action! Cindersaur got his rematch with the Sparklers on Cybertron, when the Firecons reopened the Jekka Amphitheatre as a gladiatorial arena, pitting gladiators against each other and the occasional captive Autobot. Ultra Magnus and the Sparklers came looking for the missing Chameleon, and were captured by the Firecons and their liaison, Zabra, as a result. Once Ultra Magnus was put into the ring and began beating the champion, Hooligan, Cindersaur and his buddies decided to pull out, leaving Zabra to the Autobots' inevitable retribution. Deadly Games!

Cindersaur and the other Firecons were in charge of a Decepticon penal facility on Cybertron. At the behest of Scorponok, they released three Autobots (Backstreet, Fizzle, and Sizzle), and sent them to Earth via a space bridge, where the three became test subjects for Lord Zarak's new creation, the jammer. Ca$h and Car-nage!
After a trio of Decepticons were mysteriously killed, Cindersaur and his buddies went looking for revenge against the Autobots. They found the Classic Pretenders on patrol and jumped them, but things came to an abrupt end when the giant, horrific demons who were really responsible raised their ugly heads. Demons! The Autobots and Decepticons joined forces in confronting the demons, but didn't fare too well. Cindersaur unleashed his flame breath on the creature, only to have its energies absorbed and returned to him in a fiery blast, leaving nothing left of Cindersaur but, well... a cinder. Dawn of Darkness
Later, the Firecons were among the troops who accompanied Bludgeon to the planet Klo on a mission of conquest after Cybertron was ravaged by Unicron. Cindersaur inadvertently destroyed his comrade Sparkstalker during the combat, inflicting the only casualty the Decepticons suffered during that military campaign. The Last Autobot?
Ladybird Books continuity

Highbrow was captured in battle and, immobilized, brought before Scorponok. Cindersaur reactivated Highbrow with an energy regenerator, and Highbrow was taken away. Later, when the Autobots came to retrieve Highbrow, Cindersaur's flame breath was neutralized by Hosehead's water cannon. Autobot Hostage
IDW comics continuity
Cindersaur was among the Decepticons left behind on Earth when their conquest of the planet failed. He was captured by a squad of Autobots led by Bumblebee, who then handed him over to Skywatch. The Hanging Sword
Wings Universe

Cindersaur and the Firecons were among the first generation Decepticons sent back to Earth by Galvatron once he heard of the new faction of Decepticons that had formed there. Cindersaur joined up with Clench and the Decepticon Syndicate along with several others first gen warriors like Breakdown, Double Punch, and Slicer. In Switzerland, Clench and his Predacon general Sky-Byte were testing a new mutagen energon known as forestonite. After hearing of the potentially disastrous side-effects, Clench convinced the simple-minded Cindersaur to eat a canister of the stuff. Despite it not being meant to be taken orally (nom nom nom), Cindersaur survived the *urp* digestion and mutated into a massive tyrannosaur crackling with new-found energy. He tested his newly upgraded fire-breath against the Autobots until Rapido guided some shark-missiles into the hapless Firecon. Generation 2: Redux
Toys
Generation 1

- Cindersaur (Firecon, 1988)
- Cindersaur transforms from a robot to a bipedal horn-nosed lizard monster thing. In this mode, his rear limbs can be swung up, allowing him to be rolled forward on the rubber gear-wheel on his belly. This activates the Firecon team's gimmick, shooting "cold" sparks from their beast-mode mouths.
- This mold was also used to make the Masterforce Sparkdash Guzzle.
Timelines

- Rapido and Cindersaur (BotCon 2010 souvenir set)
- Accessories: Tail/missile launcher, missile, Cyber Key
- Cindersaur is a redeco of Beast Wars 10th Anniversary Megatron, transforming into a technorganic Tyrannosaurus rex. The toy is intended to complete the Firecon set from Generation 2 which omitted Cindersaur from the trio. Like the other two Generation 2 Firecons, Cindersaur has purple and green robot parts and a third translucent color. However, due to plastic tolerances, not all of Cindersaur's blue could be made translucent. His Cyber Key is decoed with a Generation 2 Decepticon symbol, and when it is inserted into his tail, it opens up to reveal a spring-loaded missile launcher. Cindersaur was paired with Rapido and limited to 1500 pieces.
Notes
- All of the Firecon and Sparkabot toys (save Guzzle) have indents for a rubsign, yet 1987 was the last year any Transformers toys actually had rubsigns. These are the only toys from 1988 to have the indent, so what's up with that?
- Cindersaur is the only one of the Firecons who was not released in the European Generation 2 toyline. His Timelines colors are consistent with the existing Generation 2 Flamefeather and Sparkstalker's pattern of being molded in purple, green, and a transparent primary color.
