The intense storms in the area were the aftershocks of the battles between Autobots and Decepticons for the resources of Spindrift.
The Murkdipper was sailing in the Howling Blashie when it found a swarm of vapor eels. During their catch, a boilstorm hiding a cloud leviathan hit the ship, leaving the crew helpless till Galvatron came to the rescue. Heart of Darkness #3
