Real-world references
- The title and plot are a reference to the 1966 film Fantastic Voyage. This is further referenced when Doc Greene wishes everyone a "Fantastic voyage".
- Chase says the ship is "suitable for travel in inner as well as outer space" likely a reference to 1987 film Innerspace, another movie with a similar premise.
- Heatwave paraphrases the Star Trek opening: "To go where no Bot has gone before".
- Doc Greene refers to Frankie as his "little Leeuwenhoek" in reference to Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Father of Microbiology.
