Bombsheep

Bombsheep is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Bombsheep (ボムシープ Bomushīpu), despite his powerful-sounding name and intimidating appearance, is not really a fighter. A supply line worker in White Leo's army during the Great War, he does his best work supporting others, both physically and emotionally. A warm-hearted beast who takes joy in the natural beauty of planet Beast, he is an accomplished poet and songsmith, and his works have spread across the globe, earning him fans on every continent. He's also quite intelligent, able to plan and coordinate for numerous contingencies. These skills have served him well as the King of Sheepnia, and also earned him the loyalty of his normally-obstinate subordinate Emperor Badshark, who actually fought on the opposite side of the Great War.

And yet, this generally peaceful soul commands two incredibly powerful weapons. His MVP Weapon, the Bomb Scissors (ボムシザーズ Bomu Shizāzu), can use molecular fusion to induce explosive nuclear fission in any object that gets between its twin tines. Plus he's in control of the ancient Head Hunter vehicle, the Stag Hunter, powered by Bombsheep's innate Psycho Energy. Naturally, he is extremely reluctant to use either one unless he sees no other choice.

Fiction

Beastformers comic

When Sheepnia was conquered by the Laser Beasts, Bombsheep was injured and fled to Bistoram where he warned White Leo that the invaders were targeting his nation next. With Badshark having been killed in the attack, Bombsheep demanded vengeance and was the only Beastformer to accompany Rabbit Kid when he set out to search for the Hunters and use them against the Laser Beasts, successfully locating the Stag Hunter. He used the vehicle to scatter the Laser Beasts during one battle, and when he was swarmed and overpowered by the Shield Battler-6 in another clash, he refused to give up and got out to fight Stronghurricane with his fists. Bombsheep took part in the final battle between the Beastformers and the Laser Beasts on Beast in 2023. He stood by as the newly arrived Autobot Headmasters assisted the Beastformers. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 1

Toys

Beastformers

  • Bombsheep (Beastformer, 1988)
  • ID number: 26
  • Pack: G
  • Accessories: "Bomb Scissors" MVP Weapon
Released only in the post-Transformers "RPG"-themed Beastformers sequel series, Bombsheep is a blue-furred anthropomorphic ram in dark-gray robotic armor. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
The Hasbro Battle Beasts release of the figure can vary in the tone of the plastic and paint used, with some samples having richer-blue plastic and darker, glossier gray paint; it's uncertain if the Takara version has similar (minor) paint variation.
As part of the first assortment of individually-boxed Beastformers in the "RPG" line, there was a chance his normal pack-in bio card would be replaced with a rare "Burstsun" holo card featuring White Leo on the front, with a Burstsun Battle Emblem sticker in a little baggie affixed to the back, for you to attach to whichever Beastformer you chose.

Bombsheep also came packaged with the Stag Hunter vehicle, seemingly unchanged from his original release.
Yes, the Stag Hunter, not the Sheep Hunter. Sheep would be too on-the-nose.

Merchandise

Meiji candy toys

  • Bombsheep (Gashapon/candy-toy Beastformer, 1988)
    • Meiji ID number: 10
    • Accessories: "Allistretcher" weapon
A small, super-deformed, articulation-free version of Bombsheep was sold both as a gashapon capsule prize by Takara (three per capsule for 200 yen), and as a candy toy with chocolate-coated cereal-like corn puff "chocoballs" through the candy/snack company Meiji (two toys per box, for 100 yen). This stumpy lil fellow could be found in red, blue or green plastic, representing the Fire, Water and Wood elements (even though he still had a rubsign). All of the Meiji Beastformers come with a different Beastformer's weapon attached to their shoulder by a snippable sprue. Bombsheep comes with Alligatron's "Allistretcher" weapon, while Bowdog has Bombsheep's "Bomb Scissors".
The interior of each chocoballs box contains super-brief bio data for two of the twenty possible beasts, as well as rules for three different styles of game: the traditional Fire/Wood/Water deal, a "flick the figures and knock your opponent over" deal, and a more involved game that requires character data from Meiji's other candy-based Beastformers merch, the Battle Cards (see below).

  • Ramune Beastformers Battle Card (1988)
    • Meiji ID number: 10
A gold-foil "Battle Card" of Bombsheep, featuring painted character art of the kind found on early Transformers: Beastformers bio cards (seen at the top of this page), was available in randomly-packed sets of cards that came with ramune-flavored candy tablets. The back of the card features a severely truncated bio, with data for the game from the Meiji chocoball SD figures' packaging.

Notes

  • Bombsheep is one of 22 figures that were advertised on multiple Transformers-era materials but not actually released in that iteration of the line.
  • His 1988 bio gives him the nickname "Bomb" (ボム Bomu), and notes he was born in Ram City.

Foreign names

  • English: Bighorn Sheep
