Transformers United EX
The storyline of Transformers United EX was told through individual chapters printed on the backs of the United EX toy packaging. Whereas the few scattered pieces of United fiction published previously followed no set approach to continuity, after the toyline transitioned into consisting entirely of Power Core Combiners redecoes and gained its "EX" suffix, an ongoing storyline was crafted by Andrew Hall, with illustrations by Hidetsugu Yoshioka starring the characters. Set firmly in Japanese Generation 1 cartoon continuity, simultaneous with the events of Operation Combination, the story depicts the Autobots and Decepticons warring for control of the new Power Core Combination technology developed on Earth, and is particularly notable for recasting all the Power Core Combiner characters as pre-existing Generation 1 characters with new bodies and names.
