This article is about unproduced Generation 1 subgroup. For Animated musical 'bots, see Rock Bot (Animated).
The Rock Bots were to have been an Autobot subgroup from the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Rock Bots are a mystery. But an awesome mystery.

Fiction

Ask Vector Prime

The Rock Bots Powerchord and Feedback were an interstellar sensation. They opened for the Knights of Unicron at Wreckstock on the Planet of Junk. Andromeda knew of them from an interview she had conducted. Ask Vector Prime

Toys

Generation 1

The two known Rock Bots would have been sold together in a two-pack. One of them would have turned into a guitar, while the other one turned into an amplifier. In robot mode, they would have had rooted hair, simulating the type of hair worn by hair metal musicians (well, "hard rock bands") of the 1980s.

Notes

  • The Rock Bots were mentioned in conversation between Hasbro representatives Carl Fritz and Tom Bowman and the Hartman brothers during a lunch-meeting immediately prior to BotCon 1994. This moment was later recalled by Karl Hartman in an essay for Fumihiko Akiyama's unofficial BotCon Legends fan-magazine, page 32.
  • How far the concept actually got is uncertain, as is what era of the toyline they were meant to come out in. Presumably they were not meant for Generation 2, the extant toyline of 1994, as the type of music embodied by the Rock Bots was no longer popular by that time.
  • Whether the Rock Bots were to have been Autobots or Decepticons is not disclosed in the essay, but assumed by their group name ending in "Bot".
