The Chic Chips line was put on the market some time before the war. Its products were the fashion rage of their day. Being a rage, it was a matter of time before interest would wane, but in Chic Chips' case, the process was sped up due to a campaign led by Optimus Prime. IDW Generation 1 continuity

The Chic Chips had been invented by Needlenose and were sold by him and Tracks before the war. With the intention of having the chips designed for everyone, Needlenose disliked how his business partner had been marketing and pricing the devices solely towards the higher classes, which eventually led to the end of their business. Once the war was over, Needlenose told his fellow Decepticons he kind of missed those days...only to later remember the bad experiences he had had with Tracks which in turn led him to crush a handful of the chips.
