Synopsis

Millennia ago, Shockwave anticipated an energy crisis long before it became evident to all Transformers. He began the project 'Regenesis' in order to preserve the balance of war and ultimately the Cybertronian race. He distilled raw energon and loaded it into warheads, which he then sent to various planets.

One day he went to monitor his experiment on ice-age Earth, not knowing that the Dynobots were pursuing him. Grimlock's thirst for revenge after an energon transport incident was enough for him to disobey Optimus Prime's order to leave Shockwave be.

The Earth was steeped in energon radiation, but Shockwave had come prepared with specially-designed harmonic fields. The Dynobots weren't so well off. Slag resolved the problem by scanning Earth's animals and fossils to create new alt-modes for the five. The synthetic flesh of their new dinosaur modes would protect them, thanks to reformatting in their ship's CR chambers.

The Dinobots located Shockwave on the surface and attacked him. The Dinobots had the upper hand at first, until Shockwave shut down his higher logic functions and let his rage run riot. The monocular menace then defeated them in short order. The Dinobots went into stasis lock and Shockwave prepared to leave, but Grimlock had left a surprise. While approaching orbit, they had programmed their ship to fire upon Shockwave if they weren't successful. The blast hit an active volcano, starting a cataclysm that engulfed Shockwave and the Dinobots in molten lava.

Much, much later, in 2006, a bunch of human scientists found Shockwave's hand poking out of the ground.
