Protectobot (Animated)

The Protectobots are a faction from the Animated continuity family.

The Protectobots, originally known as the Protectons, were a Cybertronian faction.

2 billion years ago, the Protectons were the private guard of Guardian leader Zeemon Magnus. They staged a successful military coup, and became the new ruling class, the Protectobots.

Later, under the leadership of Nova Magnus, the Protectobots fought Devron's Destrons in what became known as the Third Cybertronian War. They lost.

250 million years later, the Autobots arose as a subfaction of the Protectobots. The AllSpark Almanac II

Then, Sentinel Prime decided he needed to upstage Optimus have a clique of trusty bots under his command to ensure Cybertron's safety. He totally came up with the name "Protectobot" on his own, a great name with no negative connotations whatsoever.
