Chimeracon
- Chimeracons are a subgroup from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
The logical evolution of the beast mode, Mesothulas's Chimeracon upgrade takes the concept and refines it into a terrifyingly effective infiltration technique. Operating one step above conventional vehicle-based Transformers, the Chimeracons incorporate "bio-disguise" technology that renders their energy signatures undetectable while in their alternate modes. On top of that, their obtenteum-powered body-frames can manipulate mass with ease, allowing them to grow or shrink to suit the dimensions of their animal disguises.

IDW Generation 1 continuity
Following Shockwave's trail to Earth, the neutral scientist known as Mesothulas discovered obtenteum, in turn derived from Ultra Energon. From this, he developed many new inventions, including the bio-disguise technology that the Chimeracons would incorporate. He tested the technology on himself, giving him a new spider alternate mode.
After the war, Mesothulas- now calling himself Tarantulas- recruited members of "Mayhem", a cross-factional terrorist cell, to help him in his quest to exact revenge on Prowl. In exchange for their service, he granted them access to new Chimeracon bodies, which would allow them to sneak about on Earth undetected. Sins of the Wreckers issue 3
