- Karl is a human from the 2001 Robots in Disguise continuity family.
Karl is one of Koji Onishi's friends. Like Koji, he enjoys bike riding. His father helps design and build industrial machinery.

Not long after Dr. Onishi was kidnapped by the Predacons, Karl and his father picked Koji up to go bike riding. Though they were stuck in a traffic jam engineered by Slapper for a protracted period, they did eventually reach their destination and popped many wheelies. Spychangers to the Rescue
Karl's father later took him and Koji to tour a car crushing facility, but were forced to flee when Sky-Byte turned up with a captive Side Burn. Sideburn's Obsession
Karl, Koji and Jenny were endangered when the Predacons attacked the CGA Tower during its grand opening. Karl and the other children cheered on the Predacons as they helped the Autobots save the tower. Sky-Byte Saves the Day
Soon after Fortress Maximus's rampage through Metro City, Karl and Jenny found Koji sitting in a park, musing on his ability to control the giant robot. Karl was envious and believed he could control Maximus too. Their conversation was soon interrupted by the arrival of two Decepticons, who were fought off by Koji's Autobot friends.
A short time later, he and Koji were skateboarding together, when the other boy confided that he felt stifled by his Autobot escort. The two boys switched clothing in an attempt to allow Koji more freedom, but this ultimately ended up with Sky-Byte mistaking Karl for Koji and kidnapping him. Though frightened by the Decepticons, Karl obeyed them and attempted to command Fortress Maximus for them.
Once inside Maximus' command centre, Karl realised he could help Koji by destroying Galvatron, however the giant robot refused to obey his instruction to crush Galvatron underfoot. At this point Koji arrived with the Autobots, and was endangered by Sky-Byte who'd seen his chance to redeem himself by capturing the right boy. Fortunately this time Maximus obeyed Karl's command and protected Koji from the Predacon. Karl was expelled from the command centre and the Autobots chased off their foe.
Koji later apologised for endangering his friend, but Karl was just happy to have gotten a chance to command Fortress Maximus. Mistaken Identity
