The name or term "Beast" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Beast (disambiguation).
The Beast is an abomination that we like to pretend doesn't exist a combined robot from the Generation 1 continuity family.
This is a monument to all of your sins.

The Beast is the combined form of the five Dinobots. Like them, his strength is awe inspiring, far beyond the other combiners. Unfortunately, he is also a mindless monster, whose single impulse is simply to kill, regardless of allegiance. He is also an aesthetic nightmare of broken robot parts, most of which can't clearly be recognized as part of any Dinobot.

Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Snarl and Swoop all writhed in agony as their bodies were torn and conjoined into a single creature, one that should never have existed. The Narrator says what we're all thinking, "The Beast Within Part 2, Consequences"

Fiction

The Beast Within

The Beast was let loose upon the battlefield once, four million years ago. Fearing the uncontrollable savagery it possessed, Grimlock vowed never to let the Beast loose again. The Beast Within Part 2, Consequences

In the present day, with the Autobots moments from death (some several moments past death) Grimlock laid all his cards on the table and combined with his teammates into the Beast in an act of desperation. After killing the Decepticon combiners, and any Decepticon foolish enough to attack him, he turned on the Autobots. Optimus Prime attempted to reason with him, but to no avail. The Beast Within After significant casualties, the Autobots were forced to kill the Beast, and therefore all of the Dinobots, by leading him to fall off a cliff. Ask Vector Prime

The massive body count inflicted by the Beast's rampage left both the Autobots and Decepticons weakened, and meant they were unable to fend off Unicron's assault on Cybertron. With Primus grievously wounded, reality-quakes tore the cosmos apart, and the remains of this particular reality were eventually devoured by the Hytherion. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/05/30

Cy-Kill was confident that he could take this mindless brute in a fight. Yeeeeah, good luck with that. Renegade Rhetoric (1), 2015/10/17

Notes

And now, Not Quite Devil Satan Six.
So yeah, our names are pretty ridiculous.
  • For years, fans have been coming up with designs for a Dinobot combiner. This is so much worse than any of them.
  • While the Beast is a combiner, is it not quite in the traditional sense. The Dinobots had to physically break themselves down to change into the various components that made up its body, rather than transform into them, leading to its frankensteined appearance.
  • Certain parts of the Beast's limbs are more easily identifiable than others. Snarl seems to form the right leg, while Sludge forms the left. Grimlock's robot-mode torso makes up its torso, while his dino-mode's upper body seems to form its neck and head, complete with his stubby T. rex-arms sticking out from said neck. Grimlock's robot-mode arms form the shoulders and upper arms, while Slag forms the right forearm with parts of Swoop forming the left forearm. Swoop's wing parts attach to the Beast's back to form its supposedly useless wings. The Beast carries an Energo-sword like its individual components, although it isn't identifiable as to which of them it may belong to, if any.
  • Dylan Gibson stated that he wanted the Beast to look different from any other Transformers to really show the horror and monstrosity it is. Mission accomplished?
  • Four of the original five Dinobot designs served as the templates for the "Geisters", recurring villainous henchmen on the Takara/Sunrise co-production Brave Exkaiser. In what might be called a vision of things to come, the four were once briefly fused into a single robot called "Mad Geister" (マッドガイスター Maddo Gaisutā). However, because each Geister controlled a portion of the combined body—and they had the accumulated brain power of a Froot Loop—this ended rather badly for them. In a more successful (if not also prescient) later development, the Geisters learned to merge in groups of two, with Ptera Geist and Thunder Geist forming the centaur-esque "Pteder" (プテダー Putedā) and Horn Geist and Armor Geist forming "Hormor" (ホーマー Hōmā).
  • Hasbro has stated repeatedly, even after the publication of "The Beast Within", that there is no Dinobot combiner. It isn't clear whether this is a strategic retcon or simply Hasbro being unaware of the comic's existence.
  • A Dinobot combiner team exists. However, it is not the original Dinobots, nor do they form the Beast. There was also a presumably-not-Dinobot-yet-dinosaur-themed combiner considered for the original toyline, but it was never produced.
  • Though not officially identified as "Dinobots", a combiner consisting of a Grimlock and a Swoop does exist that isn't the Beast.
