Generations Combiner Wars Ion Scythe is a redeco of Transformers Prime Arms Micron Gul, which was originally released in Japan with Prime Voyager Class Starscream. Ion Scythe comes pre-assembled, lacks stickers, and features paint operations. He transforms from an eagle-robot into a bladed plasma cannon. As a redeco of an Arms Micron, Ion Scythe is covered in 5mm posts and holes, allowing him to combine with other Microns to form bigger and more ridiculous "Combo Weapons" and "Super Combo Weapons".
Notably, Ion Scythe is the first Arms Micron figure to get a retail release for the United States (not counting all of the Transformers Collectors' Club's releases, which were mail-away items).
Ion Scythe's paint operations mimic the stickers on Gul, with an exception of his eagle-robot neck, which features a different deco pattern; additionally, his crystal is cast in opaque plastic and tampographed with a Decepticon insignia. Despite being much smaller and less complex than modern Legends Class toys, the packaging labels Ion Scythe as a Legends figure.
Ion Scythe was only available as part of a boxed Liokaiser giftset, the only Combiner Wars "Collection Pack" that's co-branded as part of the Platinum Edition range. In the United States, this set was officially exclusive to online retailer Entertainment Earth, but was somehow also stocked by competitor BigBadToyStore. Additionally, it was also available as a Ripley exclusive in Chile, as a Myer exclusive in Australia, and as an exclusive to the Canadian Walmart online store in, well, Canada. In Hasbro's Asian markets such as Hong Kong and Singapore, it was available at general retail.
