New co-anchor Rook is stuck with bottom-of-the-barrel guests in the face of low ratings.

Synopsis

Rook, the new co-anchor at ABN, greets the station's one viewer while muttering under his breath. Rook then turns his attention to tonight's guest; the Archive's head Custodiobot. Rook attempts to move onto questions, asking what makes the new Autobot leader Optimus a Prime. The Custodiobot explains that a Prime utilizes and bears the Matrix of Leadership. When Rook questions the robot onto what the Matrix is, he explains that it's an object used and bared by a Prime. Annoyed, Rook rhetorically asks to a crew member off-screen if this is why they have one view, while the hurt Custodiobot looks on.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • Evidently, ABN lost most of its viewers after Bishop's slip-up last issue.
  • The Custodioot appeared in Transformers episode "Surprise Party".
  • Of note, Rook refers to Optimus as the first Prime; author Jesse Wittenrich stated that in his view, the ones who came before Optimus (seen in "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4") only bore the Matrix, without utilizing, not making them true Primes. This has, for the most part, been ignored by other fiction building on that scene.

Transformers references

  • Rook was an Autobot reporter sold at BotCon Europe 2002. Previous Around Cybertron strips had his TransTech and Shattered Glass counterparts as main characters.
