IDW Generation 1 continuity
Grand Slam was stationed at the former Earth Defense Command base at Bikini Atoll when the Dire Wraith invasion began. The atoll was compromised, leaving Slam uncertain who to trust. Rock 'n Roll arrived at the base with Scarlett's reinforcements to secure it, but had to kill Wild Bill when his fellow Joe was revealed as an alien. When Slam and Rock crossed paths, neither knew if the other was a real Joe or an invader. Grand Slam appeared ready to fire his weapon, and so Rock fired first, critically injuring his teammate. D.T.A.
In the weeks that followed, Grand Slam rehabilitated from his gunshot wound, but was left in a wheelchair seemingly for life. He took charge of the Joes' weapons depot and technology at base, but refused to forgive Rock 'n Roll for shooting him, handing out substandard equipment to Rock. G.I. Joe vol. 5 #1
