Since Jackpot has never heard of it- in 'The Purloined Letter,' Hercule Poirot recovered the stolen merchandise by claiming he has already done so, and then watching when the thief looked to check they were still there. The operative principle of causing guilty parties to betray themselves by claiming to have already discovered them is virtually identical. -Derik 06:57, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Heh. Okay, I get it now. I like mine just enough not to change it back, but if somebody else thinks the Poirot ref is better and reverts it, then that's cool. - Jackpot 04:28, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I actually think the Poirot reference is a tad obvious (well, not obvious, but it's not funny, it's merely saying 'this operates on the same mechanism as a well-known mystery story.') The weak 'letter opener' gag isn't worth it. Keep yours. -Derik 04:56, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
