Help:Interwiki linking

Interwiki linking (linking to an article on Wikipedia, a Fandom wiki, or other wiki in general) is medium-complicated, but not that hard to learn.

Linking to Wikipedia

To link to the Wikipedia article "Trains" type; Wikipedia:Trains

As with regular links, link text can be provided after a pipe character; Trains on Wikipedia

W:Trains or Trains can also be used as shorter alternatives.

Linking to Fandom articles

To link to a Fandom article, such as the article "Supergate" on the "Stargate" Fandom wiki, use this format; Wikia:stargate:Supergate

(This code is a holdover from the days when Fandom was known as Wikia, but has been updated to point to the corresponding Fandom URL.)

Several sites on Fandom, such as Memory Alpha, have their own domain and can be linked to using a similar pattern to non-Fandom wikis: MemoryAlpha:James T. Kirk:

Linking to other wikis

Other sites of relevance to TFWiki can be linked to:

  • TVTropes can be linked to using links of the form Dull Surprise which produces a link that looks like this:
    Dull Surprise.
  • IMDB can be linked to using links of the form Transformers (2007) which produces a link that looks like this:
    Transformers (2007).

Linking from Wikipedia

When editing pages on Wikipedia, links to TFWiki can be made using a similar syntax. For instance linking to our Generation 1 Optimus Prime article from a Wikipedia article can be done as follows:

  • TFWiki:Optimus Prime (G1)
