A day before Fig was scheduled to return home on leave from Qatar, U.S. SOCCENT air base was suddenly under seige by the Decepticon Blackout. As one of the few survivors of the attack, he, Sergeant Donnely, Sergeant Epps, and the remainder of the soldiers under the command of Captain William Lennox wandered through the desert looking for a way to contact their superiors.
Suddenly, they were all under attack from a strange metal creature named Scorponok. After it speared Donnely, one of Scorponok's missile blasts grazed Fig. After the military was contacted and Scorponok was repelled, Fig was carried off on a stretcher and evacuated by helicopter.
