Talk:Decepticon
I had heard that Energon featured the Combiners as ancient Deceptions that likely predate Megatron. I haven't seen it myself but just throwing it out there. Also G1 Cartoon vs. Comic bots should likely get separate entries, since there's the whole "military hardware" lineage to mention for the toon, and the "Liege Maximo" as Megatron's ancestor, for the comic. - Energon confuses the shit out of me. I don't think anyone actually THOUGHT about what they were writing.
- Any rate, yeah, for G1 we really should separate the two major continuities. I mean, the cartoon at once point says Megatron wasn't the first Decepticon... but had said he WAS earlier... SPEAKING of not thinking... --M Sipher 00:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

- The Dorling Kindersly Book, makes him out as a Decepticon Pit Fighter who battled his way up through the ranks. Look also to the other statuary visible during Starscream's coronation that tends to lend credence to Megatron not being the first Decepticon, rather the latest leader descending from the Quintesson's original military hardware product line. In Wreckers, Al Badur, who'd been exiled from Cybertron since prior to the Quint uprising, refers to Autobots and Decepticons. I'd say that the military line was CALLED the Decepticons. (And their sigil was likely their glave-brand, albeit as warriors, not servants) If Megatron 'founded' the Decepticon movement, he could be 'refounding' it, or co-opting what was otherwise an unrelated historical legacy. (Which is weak, but it has the merit of threading the needle between the conflicting evidence of War Dawn, FFoD and Desertion of the Dinobots.) -Derik 01:36, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Air Power
[edit]The Decepticons are mostly known for their military and air power. Starscream always turn into a jet. Megatron turns into military vehicles such as an M1 Abrams Superheavy Tank.
Leader's rank
[edit]I've noticed that while the Japanese fiction usually does the whole "something of Destruction", is there any sort of title for the leader of the Decepticons in Western fiction? I've seen "Decepticon commander" every now and then, and is that supposed to be the official title, or just a generic rank? -- SFH 03:34, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Galvatron - Decepticon
[edit]Under the robots in disguise section it says "The toy version of Galvatron was also labeled as a Decepticon, although this "change" in the character's faction was not established in the cartoon series." but in the episode maximus emerges when megs comes back as galvatron he says "which led to my rebirth as a decepticon". RID episode?
[edit]Do we actually have an episode page for RID's "The Decepticons"? The RID cartoon page says we do, but it redirects here.... and the disambiguation page redirects here too. Attempting to search for "The Decepticons (RID)" or "The Decepticons (episode)" were fruitless. --Thylacine 2000 15:12, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Catchphrase
[edit]Does anyone think that the Animated Megatron's "Transform and Rise Up" would be effectively used as a quote on this page, either for the decepticons in general or for the Animated branch?
Destron
[edit]I went to a Japanese Transformers fansite. The Yahoo! translator translated it smoothly. However, where I had expected to see the word "Destron", it was instead translated as "Deathtron". ZeldaTheSwordsman 21:14, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
- A valid phonetic rendering of the characters.
- How do we know "Look" is pronounced "Luk" but "cool" is pronounced "kewl?" The same set of letters have multiple possible sounds... you just have to memorize whoch one is right by context. Same principle. -Derik 21:17, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
- The Japanese language does not have the /th/ sound (it's pretty uncommon). They transliterate it into Japanese as the 's' sound. So we get death → デス (desu). This then gets Romanized by those who don't know the origins of the word into "des". —Interrobang 22:08, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
RID
[edit]Shouldn't the RID Decepticons have a separate article? They're no more the same as normal Decepticons as RID Predacons are to G1 (or BW) Predacons, and they all get separate articles. --Flicky1991 15:21, 30 January 2013 (EST)
Galatians 4:16 and Orion Pax Part 1 quote
[edit]Is it appropriate to add another quote under the Aligned section "For if speaking the truth is Deception, then we are gladly guilty", from the episode Orion Pax: Part 1 spoken by Megatron (formerly D-16) to Orion Pax. This one makes explicit a canonical reason for the movement or faction to be called the way it is, and taken directly from the movement's creator, no less.
It just happens to be a coincidence but in Galatians 4:16 (kinda like D-16) it's said : Am I therefore become your enemy for telling you the truth ? It mirrors the beliefs which he preached in Exodus about the system of caste that oppressed people, and the fact that the High Council chose to see him as an enemy, an agitator and the original perpetrator of the terrorist attacks happening on Cybertron (which he was but kept secret).--SnipinScientist (talk) 16:44, 21 January 2019 (EST)
- While a bit similar, it's more than likely coincidence and not notable enough to be worth mention. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 17:03, 21 January 2019 (EST)
More Cleaning Up?
[edit]Just thinking, looking over this page, it could use some serious work in places. Just giving one example: The movieverse section. It's treating the films, the Titan comics, the IDW comics and the books as one big continuity soup (also using the word "spastic" in the opening sentence, which is a different kettle of fish). And that's just the biggest quibble. (The smallest would be the trivia note at the very bottom of the page. Is that thing really necessary?) Smasher (talk) 17:47, 20 October 2019 (EDT)
