The name or term "Overload" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Overload (disambiguation).
Overload is a Decepticon Constructicon from the Revenge of the Fallen portion of the live-action film continuity family.
This may be the only time you ever see me in robot mode!

Overload transforms into a red modified Komatsu HD465-7 articulated dump truck. Sometimes, he combines with his fellow Constructicons to form Devastator's lower waist. And no, he's not Bonecrusher.

Fiction

Revenge of the Fallen film

He looks pretty big until you notice Scavenger.

During the climactic battle in Egypt between the Autobots, their human allies and The Fallen's Decepticons, Overload arrived in a quarry with the other Constructicons before merging into Devastator to attack former Sector Seven agent Seymour Simmons, Leo Spitz, Skids and Mudflap. Later, as Devastator smashed away at the Great Pyramid of Giza after shrugging off Skids and Mudflap, Simmons called upon the United States Navy to fire upon the giant Decepticon. The U.S.S. Kidd fired her experimental rail gun, smashing one of his arms to pieces and destroying Devastator. Revenge of the Fallen

Overload’s involvement in the preceding events, or events mostly similar, were also chronicled in the novel "The Last Prime"; the comic mini-series "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Official Movie Adaptation"; and the storybook "Rise of the Decepticons."

IDW comics

Overload's body type was one of the early "construction drones" used to build Star Harvesters. One of the Overloads joined the Fallen's original Decepticons. He tried to battle the turncoat Jetfire and was quickly taken out. Tales of the Fallen #4

Toys

But he does hate that you think he's Bonecrusher.

Revenge of the Fallen

  • Decepticon Overload (Legends, 2009)
    • Japanese ID number: D1
Overload and the six other Legends class Constructicons combine to form Devastator. In Japan, the Legends class Constructicons are sold individually. He transforms into an articulated dump truck. He forms the lower torso/hips of Devastator.
  • Constructicon Devastator (Legends figure multi-pack, 2010)
In Hasbro's markets, the Legends Constructicons are sold together as a Walmart store exclusive.

Swap parts with the original to make Christmas Overload.
  • EZ Collection Devastator - G1 Colors Version (Legends, 2010)
Takara also released Overload along with the six other Legend class Constructicons in G1 inspired green and purple color schemes.

Transformers (2010)

  • Constructicon Devastator (Legends, 2010)
A Toys"R"Us-exclusive Generation 1-themed redeco of Legends Devastator and his components. Unlike Takara's go at the same idea, Overload and the other Constructicons are mostly just lime green and gray, with the only bits of purple being their windshields. They do, however, have brown paint operations on and around their wheels to simulate dirt.

Movie Advanced Series

  • Devastator (Legends, 2014)
    • Japanese ID number: AD13
Released as part of Takara's Movie Advanced Series Devastator set, Overload is a redeco of the ROTF Legends Overload to closely resemble his on-screen portrayal.

Generations

Studio Series

Losing half my legs was worth it for this.
  • Overload (Leader Class, 2020)
    • ID number: ??
    • Japanese ID number: SS-54
    • Japanese release date: 2020
    • Accessories: "Pyramid Desert Battle" backdrop, Devastator neck armor
Released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Revenge of the Fallen, Studio Series Overload is an all-new Leader Class-sized mold that transforms from an articulated dump truck into a robot mode based on a piece of concept art. He comes with a cardboard backdrop display depicting Operation: Firestorm and an armor piece for Mixmaster's head mode, but unfortunately, only has 2 legs (similar to his Legends-class toy and his appearance in the IDW comics) instead of four compared to the initial concept art (not to mention a puny fifth clawed arm on his back).
Overload can be combined with the rest of the Studio Series Constructicons to form Devastator, becoming the giant's chest, lower torso, thighs and waist, though the transformation leaves the back of his head exposed in combined mode, right in the middle of Devastator's stomach.

Merchandise

Robot Heroes

  • Desert Devastation (Multi-pack, 2009)
Thrusty!
Overload is the sculpted crotch of "Desert Devastation" Devastator, a super-sized Robot Heroes figure. He is only available in a multi-pack with Skids and Mudflap in their vehicle modes and William Lennox.

Notes

"People would probably remember me if this was my robot mode."
"Yeah, they'd definitely remember me more."
  • Like several recent Japanese Transformers toys, TakaraTomy has incorporated Overload's faction with his name in an effort to strengthen his trademark. Hasbro, however, has not had such problems to date with the name Overload in their markets.
  • Being the seventh Constructicon, Overload technically hasn't got a G1 counterpart, but he is a (albeit articulated) dump truck that forms Devastator's lower torso.
  • One of Ben Procter's concept art studies for Overload's robot mode is a monstrous—and awesome—four-armed quadruped with claws and hooks up the ying-yang.[1] Unfortunately, this was too complex for toy engineering, so the extra legs were cut and replaced by a more bipedal design which would be used for his toys and comic appearances. There are concept art bipedal variants[2] of his quadruped design, from which his toy and comic depictions appear to have taken inspiration.
  • His robot mode is shown—obscured, but it's there—in the comic adaptation.

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Overload (オーバーロード Ōbārōdo)
