Hot Rod and Clobber accidentally free the wrong bot from Quintesson control.

Synopsis

It's a beautiful, sunlit day on Cybertron, and all is fun and celebration for the Decepticons at the Parade of Metals. An enthusiastic Lockdown makes his way through the crowds, eager to get a better look at the platinum float, treading on Dead End's foot as he passes, prompting the grumpy Decepticon to grumble. Lockdown spots Clobber on the other side of the street. The cycloptic Decepticon suddenly charges Lockdown and starts pummelling him, much to Dead End's approval.

Clobber implores Lockdown to wake up, telling him things aren't real, but Lockdown's too enraptured by the parade to care, while a confused and annoyed Dead End watches. Clobber tries to explain what's going on, but only manages to confuse her comrades in-arms. Momentarily distracted by the amusement of Sky-Byte getting crushed by a falling cube, Clobber tries again, telling Lockdown he needs to transform in order to escape, but Lockdown's attention is drawn to the parade's grand marshal, Megatron. Frustrated, Clobber gives up, and disappears from sight, to Dead End's shock.

Back in the real world, Clobber complains about her lack of success to Hot Rod. Perceptor calls in, telling Hot Rod he has news that might increase their chances of success: He's found another Cortical psychic patch. Clobber recognises the location as one of Shockwave's old labs. The two transform and head out.

Back in the Loop, Dead End wonders about what he heard Clobber say, and transforms. He awakens to find himself in a room filled with other Cybertronians, their faces covered by mysterious pulsing tendrils, all leading off to one place. Investigating, but unable to remove the tendrils, he finds Lockdown, Shadow Striker, Soundwave, and even Megatron himself have all been captured. Wandering about, he finds an ominous glowing pit, and accidentally knocks some rubble into it, which immediately sets off alarms, waking up several Quintessons. Dead End flees into the streets of Iacon, eventually managing to evade his pursuers. Noting he needs to get off the streets, Dead End spies Shockwave's old lab.

Inside, Dead End finds Clobber and Hot Rod searching the place. Clobber is unnerved by the place, but Hot Rod tells her they can't leave until they find the psychic patch, neither noticing the lurking newcomer. Hot Rod rummages, soon uncovering the psychic patch, and they leave. As they reach their hideout, Dead End makes himself known by ramming Hot Rod, assuming the Autobots are somehow responsible for Cybertron's current condition. He draws a gun, and the two brawl, until Dead End fires his gun, the shot going wild and causing an explosion, which draws the attention of the Quintessons. Clobber and Hot Rod flee inside, dragging the horrified Dead End with them.

Once inside, Dead End inquires about Hot Rod, having assumed he died during the battle for Cybertron. Hot Rod explains. Having run into some "problems", Hot Rod survived his apparent death in the toxic energon pool, and dug his way out. By the time he'd crawled his way back up to the surface, the Quintessons had already taken the entire planet. Staying out of sight, he tried figuring out where everyone had been taken, when he found Perceptor. The scientist worked out a way to use the cortical psychic patch to access the Loop, so they could free everyone, Autobots and Decepticons alike. Hot Rod explains that it's now Cybertron against the Quintessons.

Dead End is entirely unconcerned, but no sooner does he say he plans to just stay away from them, the Quintessons start pounding at the hideout's door, and cut their way in. They make their way to Perceptor, who now states the new problem: they lead the Quintessons stright to their base. With the only entrance blocked, Clobber makes a new exit. The group tries escaping, but find their route blocked by another Quintesson patrol. Hot Rod spots Maccadam's, where the lights are still on. They duck into the bar, and wait for the Quintessons to enter, but nothing happens. As Clobber asks if they're going to come in at all, Maccadam answers her question: No Quintessons allowed in his bar. But they are. Hot Rod's surprised to find the bartender still around. Maccadam just laughs and responds that he is... for now. Outside, the Quintessons swarm, apparently not noticing the old oil house at all.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • Hot Rod "ran into some problems" as he puts it, in "The Battle For Cybertron III". His change of color-scheme is shown to be a result of his dunk in the spoiled energon pool.
  • Maccadam was last chronologically seen staying behind on Cybertron back in "Maccadam's".
