You can probably buy this at the liquor store.

The biggest movie of summer 2009 was released to DVD and Blu-ray in North America on October 20th, 2009. Are you prepared? Do you know your exclusive transforming case from your extra seconds of metal smashy-smashy? Here's what you need to know:

General retail releases

Hundreds of retail chains across the United States are offering ROTF for sale, from grocery stores to pharmacies to gas stations. There are essentially four versions of ROTF available for Region 1 purchase - the single-disc DVD, the two-disc "special edition" available on Blu-Ray or DVD, and the Walmart-exclusive "Big Screen Edition" which is the only version containing the IMAX-exclusive footage (but is otherwise identical to the Special Edition).

Here's everything you could ever want to know about the different releases:

Single-disc release

DVD approximately $15 US / £10 UK
  • All editions of ROTF include the following:
    • Revenge of the Fallen in widescreen format
    • English, French and Spanish language tracks
    • English, French and Spanish subtitles
  • There appears to be no single-disc Blu-Ray release, however, disc one of the Blu-Ray Special Edition is in 1080p format, upgrades the audio tracks to 5.1 Dolby Digital and adds a Brazilian Portuguese subtitle track.

Two-Disc Special Edition

You can probably buy this at the nicer, larger, liquor store.
DVD approx. $22 / £15
Blu-ray approx. $25 / £17
  • This version includes all the features above, a Michael Bay, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci commentary track plus a second disc containing:
    • Extended scenes
    • Linkin Park music video for "New Divide"
    • A ton of documentaries, as follows:
      • The Human Factor: Exacting Revenge of the Fallen
      • Seeds of Vengeance - Development and Design
      • Domestic Destruction - Production: United States
      • Joint Operations - Production: Military
      • Wonders of the World - Production: Middle East
      • Start Making Sense - Editing
      • Under the Gun - Visual Effects
      • Running the Gauntlet - Post-Production and Release
      • A Day With Bay - Tokyo
      • 25 Years of Transformers
      • Deconstructing Visual Bayhem
    • NEST Transformers Data Hub; a collection of concept art
    • Easter eggs:
  • The Blu-ray version adds the following:
    • The Allspark Experiment mini-game
    • 3-D turnaround galleries of the robot designs
    • A Transformers timeline
    • Some more documentaries:
      • Giant Effing Movie
      • The Matrix of Marketing
  • The UK Blu-ray version also adds a third disc containing a "Digital Copy" of the movie, meaning a file on a DVD-ROM, for copying to your computer, etc.

For a limited time, copies of the DVD were available for preorder on Michael Bay's website, to be signed by Bay himself. Maybe you can find one on eBay if you're lucky.

Two-Movie Mega Collection

DVD approx. $30 / £15
  • Contains the single-disc edition DVDs of both Transformers and ROTF
Blu-ray approx. $45 / £35
  • Contains the Two-Disc Special Edition Blu-rays of both Transformers and ROTF

The first two are also available in future compilations to come, each adding one more subsequent movie.

4K Ultra HD

approx. $25 /
  • Contains the movie on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray.
  • NOTE: Greece and India sell only a single-disc 4K package, the US and France carry over the two-disc special edition, while the rest of the world get only the movie on both 4K and Blu-ray.
  • English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese audio tracks and subtitles (US/Australia)
  • English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Japanese audio tracks and subtitles plus additional subtitles in Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Greek, Icelandic, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, Romanian, Slovak, Finnish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Ukrainian (Europe/Asia)
  • Commentary by director Michael Bay (both editions; European/Asian edition also adds subtitles in German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and Korean)

F.Y.E. Exclusive Steelbook Packaging - $25.99

Target Exclusive Transforming Bumblebee Case

Walmart Exclusive Big Screen Edition

We're not playing favorites... but let's face it; this is the one you want.
  • On a funny sidenote to the Wal-Mart edition, a home office error caused the Blu-Ray version to be priced at $13 at release. Unfortunately, due to a decree by the Georgia governor during the flooding that occurred in the Fall, no retailers were allowed to initiate price increases until the end of October. Not even to fix a pricing error.

What's needed: Are there any exclusive releases for other markets? Europe? Australasia? We need pics of everything, too.

Taiwanese retailer exclusives

Revenge of the Fallen DVDs and Blu-ray Discs are officially available in Taiwan on November 20, but actually on the market around November 18.

Single-disc release

This is how they always deal with the shelfwarmers. Seriously.
  • Transformers: The War of Revenge (550 NTD)
Standard version DVD with a paper shellcase printed with introduction in Traditional Chinese.
  • Transformers: The War of Revenge Transformable Figure Giftbox (850 NTD)
The special set is the item above attached with one of the Deluxe class Special Edition from Universe franchise: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Overkill, or Drag Strip. All of them are actually shelfwarmers in Taiwanese market.

Two-Disc Special Edition

Much better.
  • Transformers: The War of Revenge Iron Case Two-Disc Special Edition (698 NTD)
As same as the Steelbook Edition with an extra metallic paper cap printed with introduction in Traditional Chinese.
  • Transformers: The War of Revenge Transforming Case Two-Disc Special Edition (798 NTD)
As same as the transforming Bumblebee case found in the U.S. Target exclusive.
  • Transformers 1 + 2 Cool & Shining Pack (799 NTD)
Featuring the DVD of Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with an exclusive Autobot mousepad.

Special items

If the customer orders a DVD in a 7-Eleven convenience store or Books.com.tw, there will be an extra exclusive coaster set, featuring four circle-shaped coasters. The diameter of each coaster is around 9 cm (3.5 in). The pictures on the coasters are the Autobot insignia, Optimus Prime, the Decepticon insignia, and Bumblebee.

In fact, the customer will receive not only the exclusive coaster set, but also a notepad of Shrek the Third, another film from DreamWorks, as an extra gift.

Miscellaneous

Early-pressed DVD features two extra cards:
