- Fortress is an Autobot Headmaster in the Generation 1 continuity family.
Fortress is an Cybertron(Autobot) who led an exodus from Seibertron to escape the ravages of war four million years ago. Being a kindly and compassionate being, he could no longer stand by and see his fellows being slaughtered These small scale transformers managed to survive and eventually thrive on their new planet, Master, under the leadership of Fortress. Fortress was a noble being with high ideals and great wisdom which made him admired by most of their society. When a revolt arose, Fortress and his closest associates built Transector bodies to which they could bond, becoming Headmasters. Fortress' Transector has the capacity to become the head for the massive transforming starship Maximus to forge the super warrior Fortress Maximus. In this form, Fortress can utilize the super weapon, the Master Sword, a smaller version of which Fortress uses to connect to the Maximus Starship.

Cybertron (Seibertron in the Japanese) was under seige by the Decepticon forces along with their three new allies: Mindwipe, Skullcruncher, and Weirdwolf. The battleship Maximus appeared over the planet, releasing the Autobot headmasters and turning the tide of battle. While Hot Rod sought the Creation Matrix, Fortress entered the heart of Cybertron to help Optimus Prime convince Vector Sigma to put it's allegience behind the Autobots. After the death of Optimus, Fortress became the right hand man to Rodimus Prime, often giving advice or leading troops into battle against the Decepticons. Rodimus eventually left to find a new home for the Autobots, and annointed Fotress as the acting Commander of all Autobots. Fortress continued to lead from the front, and was eventually forced to reveal his super form to battle the new Decepticon leader, Megazarak

Fortress was seen briefly and indistinctly as he introduced his brother, Grand Maximus.
