Continuity notes

  • For the first time in Rescue Bots history, we actually see a live Decepticon onscreen...though if you want to get technical, Grimlock and Wedge, as we learn in this episode, are both former 'cons.
  • Like Grimlock and Sideswipe from Robots in Disguise, this Laserbeak appears to be a separate individual from the previous bearer of the name in the Aligned continuity family, based on the wildly different design more closely in tune with his G1 counterpart and lack of a criminal record (which the latter absolutely has).
  • Whirl's lack of knowledge of the Decepticons, combined with Medix's referring to Cybertron's two factions in the past tense, suggests that Cybertron has long-since reunified by the time Rescue Bots Academy starts. The Decepticon Cyberwarp previously expressed hope that the two sides would someday come together in harmony back in the Robots in Disguise episode "Freedom Fighters", and it looks like they largely succeeded in the intervening years, despite the prejudices of bots like Hot Shot. This also seems to confirm the recruits, except Wedge, were "born" after the war.

Transformers references

  • We really don't need to explain where the episode title comes from.
  • Laserbeak is a cassette/bird like his G1 counterpart, as opposed to the oragami-looking bot from Prime and RID. His joining up with the Rescue Bots could be a loose reference to his Armada self, who was a heroic Autobot drone.
  • Wedge being an ex-Decepticon is an inversion of his original counterpart, who would be robosmashed into a Decepticon in an alternate universe established by Ask Vector Prime.
  • The Decepticons are a distant memory much like they were in Animated, only time will tell if they'll ever return this time around.

  • Seriously, one has to wonder how quickly the political landscape changes on Cybertron in order for bots like Whirl to have not even heard of Decepticons or seem to have any prior knowledge of the war that engulfed their planet for thousands of years. Maybe Cyclonus's brainwashing helped?
