Prior to the war, there were times when Autobot law enforcement officers would be outnumbered by numerous criminals. To counter this, they developed Core Overrides, a process that allows anyone with the controls to remotely detonate a selected brain module. These were mainly a warning to those who took to a life of crime.

War for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon

During a dark period in Cybertron's history, Praxian officers developed core overrides in response to large groups of criminals. These would be remembered as dark times in modern Autobot history, with many ashamed of it's creation.

After Jetfire was instructed to guide to Autobots through the Rust Sea, the former Seeker had Prowl submit him to a core override to secure the trust of the other Autobots. Although reluctant, they agreed, and they set off through the Rust Sea. After Jetfire saved him from a metallic vortex, Prowl felt ashamed of holding the controller for the override, but Jetfire insisted he keep it for the sake of the mission. It is unknown if Jetfire was released following the mission.
