Break (BW)
- Break is a Maximal from the Beast Era of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Maximal new recruit Break (ブレイク Bureiku) wants to be the best. Absolutely overflowing with infectious enthusiasm, there is no adventure too perilous and no challenge too daunting to quench his hot-blooded burning heart. Being a new recruit, he currently resides at the bottom of the food chain, but his ambitions lay at the very top and he's determined to be Hokage Supreme Commander someday.
Of course, his gung-ho personality and inability to accept anything less than identical pep from his peers makes him more than a little obnoxious. With designs on being a leader, he tends to presumptuously act like a leader, which stifles the sub-commander Longrack and can even irritate the Supreme Commander Big Convoy. While skittish cowards such as Stampy and lazy do-nothings such as Heinrad are resentfully bullied into following him, arrogant rebels such as Colada and free spirits such as Mach Kick are less likely to acknowledge his "authority". So basically, Break gets on everybody's nerves.

Break, along with Star Upper, was one of many beast mode Maximals waiting to receive their mission assignments while Big Convoy was being chewed out by the upper brass. Big Convoy, Move Out Chase the Mysterious Capsule Break and the rest of the Maximals later located an Angolmois Capsule on the planet Solid. NAVI described the planet as warm and tropical, but much to Break's pleasure, it turned out instead to be a cold, frozen wasteland. He was sent out to scout alone and encountered a large creature named Gōmya, who had an Angolmois Capsule stuck to his tail. During a fight between Break and Dead End over possession of the capsule, Gōmya was knocked into the water, and Break had to choose between saving his friend or the capsule. He chose Gōmya, who had not only learned to swim, but had opened up his cold heart. With this change in attitude and Gōmya's separation from the capsule, the planet thawed out, freeing the creature's brother Dōmya. It also freed up the rest of the Maximals, who recaptured the capsule from a fleeing Dead End before sending him flying. Back on the Gung Ho, Longrack berated Break for nearly letting the capsule go, but Vector Sigma, speaking through Big Convoy, assured that Break did the right thing. Break was part of the Gung Ho crew under Big Convoy's leadership that defeated Magmatron. Beast Wars Sourcebook #1

Break served as a member of the elite Maximal unit known as the Pack. After Razorbeast had prevented Magmatron from raising an army of Predacons using the protoforms of Earth's past, the Pack were able to pick up his transwarp distress signal and Lio Convoy ordered them to man the ship and find Razorbeast. Break was the navigator of the ship, and also enjoyed trading verbal barbs with fellow Pack member Apache. The Ascending #2

Upon arriving on prehistoric Earth, the rest of the Pack engaged the Predacons while Break apparently landed the ship. He later was seen, along with Stampy, to be heckling the Maximals that were trying to restrain the Angolmois-infected Razorbeast. The Ascending #3
In the battle with Shokaract, Break engaged his gun mode to give Mach Kick some extra firepower. The Ascending #4

Break was uninterested in the arrival of a new teacher, Year 3, Class B Big-sensei and like his classmates was shocked when said teacher, Big, started teaching them about Transformers. First Lesson First During sports day, he showed off excellent skating skills only to be disappointed when Big awarded him with a medal made from a Cyber Key. He and his classmates were then smushed under Big's weight when he joined them for a cavalry battle. Hot-blooded Break To the class's surprise, Big eventually did start teaching them normal subjects. Beast Wars: Uprising
Break was a Maximal technician recruited by Blackarachnia for the Resistance against the Builders of Cybertron, providing Lio Convoy with an Angolmois Blaster. During the start of the 1924th Games, they infiltrated Override's perch and took control of the cameras and broadcasting equipment, making sure Lio Convoy had his audience when he interrupted the Games and announced the revolution. As the war drew to a close, Break–now sporting an arcti-avianoid beast mode–once again joined the front lines as the Resistance moved to seize Yuss in preparation for the main assault on Iacon. He, Lio Convoy, and Quillfire attacked Goldbug's fortified command bunker, only to discover that the command codes necessary to direct the Yuss Battery had been thoroughly encrypted. Realizing that his failure could mean the end of the Resistance, Break plugged himself directly into the mainframe and sacrificed himself to gain access to the artillery. Derailment

Toys
Beast Wars

- Break (Basic, January 1999)
- ID number: C-32
- Accessories: "Break Anchor" missile
- Part of the first wave of Beast Wars Neo products in the Japanese Beast Wars toyline, Break transforms into an emperor penguin with articluated head, feet and flippers. In robot mode, he has his spring-loaded "Break Anchor" missile launcher attached to his right arm, which also houses his Maximal spark crystal.
- Break also features a third "Buster Mode"; a hand-held cannon-form made to be wielded by larger figures such as Big Convoy and Longrack—or any other figure equipped with 5 mm ports. As in the cartoon, one can replicate the scene where Break's Buster Mode was utilized, by having Longrack's beast mode forelegs folded down in robot mode to be used as centaur-like supports; while holding onto the two posts on both of Break's flippers, and resting Break on his lap, making this gimmick easier to use without the weight of Break making Longrack's arms droop.
- Break is considered one of the most notorious shellformers, as you can remove every piece of the penguin mode from him (aside from his forearm kibble pieces, as they require a screwdriver) and still have a fully-functional, four-limbed robot.
- This toy was later repurposed as Rockhopper.

- Undersea Showdown: Break VS Dead End (Two-pack, January 1999)
- Takara ID number: VS-32
- Sonokong ID number: DX-04
- Accessories: "Break Anchor" missile
- Break was also available in the "Undersea Showdown" (海中の対決 kaichū no taiketsu) two-pack with Dead End. Both toys are identical to their individual releases.
- Sonokong also released this vs-pack in Korean Beast War Neo markets. The Sonokong Break features no differences with the Takara releases, other than the packaging and Tech Spec cards.
Notes
- Break sounds exactly like Naruto Uzumaki. While some similarity is to be expected since Junko Takeuchi provides the voice for both characters, Break's intonation, accent, and attitude are notably identical to the later character.
- Due to his "mischievous student" characterization in the cartoon, Break is the only character to swear or use harsh language out of both Beast Wars II and Beast wars Neo.
- IDW's Beast Wars comics depict Break's penguin mode as a rockhopper penguin, not an emperor. This is not an error per se, since in-continuity this is Break's second beast mode. His teammate Stampy mentions that his new beast mode is "revamped", having held a vehicle mode between the events of IDW's version of Beast Wars Neo and the IDW comics.
