Talk:List of Japanese ID numbers
From MediaWiki
Holy shit I hate the way this page looks SO MUCH. Metric butt-tons of wasted space. I'm still nostrils-deep in the Beastformers stuff, anyone wanna have a go at this with like a collist=5 setup instead of... this? --M Sipher (talk) 01:53, 19 August 2021 (EDT)
- I got most of the Beast Wars section, though I'm not sure what that table at the end is after the VS sets. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 15:56, 19 August 2021 (EDT)
- I could be wrong, but didn't the live-action film toylines opt to call the characters and factions by their English names rather than "Cybertrons" and "Destrons"? Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 00:44, 20 August 2021 (EDT)
- If our own pages are to be believed, yes. Animated as well. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 00:50, 20 August 2021 (EDT)
- Ah, good to know. I'll remember that in the future. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:51, 20 August 2021 (EDT)

Move
Just thought I should let you all know, there was a discussion on Discord that suggested we move the page to "List of ID numbers" due to Hasbro having their own numbering system with the current toylines, that way we can document both systems which are pretty different from each other and show off the differences. I am for this change.
Feel free to speak up if you feel otherwise. Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 20:13, 19 August 2021 (EDT)
- Here's an idea. What if we move it to simply "ID number", add an informative intro at the top about what ID numbers are and summarize their role in the history of the brand, making this into a full-blown article unto itself instead just a glorified list page? --Sabrblade (talk) 14:15, 20 August 2021 (EDT)
- If you're willing to write something up, then I'm all for it. It's a lot easier to justify a list like this if there's explanatory prose to accompany it. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 00:25, 21 August 2021 (EDT)
- Something like this as a start:
- "ID numbers are a classification system used throughout the Transformers brand to numerically identify each toy sold within a franchise's toyline. Historically, they have been used primarily by TakaraTomy (originally Takara), but Hasbro has been known to use its own systems as well. ID numbers provide a form of "order" to each toyline that uses them, allowing collectors to more easily identify specific figures."
- I used some of Saix's intro text at the end. --Sabrblade (talk) 00:51, 21 August 2021 (EDT)
