The USS Miskatonic is a ship from the Hearts of Steel portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Hearts of Steel

The Miskatonic was traveling to Ireland when it was suddenly attacked by an Elder God rising from beneath the waves. The Autobot Ironhide, who was disguised as one of the ship's gun turrets, managed to escape before it was ripped to shreds and sunk by the monster's tentacles. "Strange Visitors" establishes that events identical to those of Hearts of Steel and Infestation 2 occur in the 2005 IDW continuity; however, they happened to Maximal explorers brainwashed by Shockwave into believing they were the Autobots and Decepticons of the Great War.

Notes

• The Miskatonic is named after Miskatonic University, a recurring setting from the Cthulhu Mythos.
• The ship itself looks like an Olympia-class protected cruiser, her name also doesn't follow USN battleship's naming conventions where cruisers are typically named after US cities, territories, and/or towns.
