First Edition

Let's hope those aren't truck nutz.
Any color green is good, right?
  • Bulkhead (First Edition Voyager Class, 2011/2012)
    • Number: 002
    • Takara release date: December 28, 2012
    • Accessories: Energon battle mace, stand
Part of the first wave of Prime: First Edition Voyager Class toys, Bulkhead transforms into a truck. He comes with an "energon battle mace" that can either peg via 5mm post into his hands, or replace one of his hands when either is flipped into his arm. The mace itself features a plain peg-hole at the top, and is stored in vehicle mode by pegging it onto the trunk. The patch of clear black light-piping plastic (gang-molded to the rest of his show-accurate clear black parts) on his head is neutered by having his eyes painted, in equally show-accurate light blue. Oddly, though, many parts like his upper arms, hands, and crotch piece are cast in a bronze-ish plastic rather than a grey. This is in contrast to his more accurate stock photos and Robots in Disguise Voyager release. He features a cardboard stand as with all "First Edition" toys, but the weak adhesive used for its flaps mean it often has trouble supporting the weight of a Voyager class figure for an extended amount of time, the top caving in as the glue gives way.
In an effort for him to fit in his packaging, he is usually mis-transformed: the panel on his back is hinged up to his head, while the wheels connected to his panel-chest, normally splayed out as a pair of "wings" and tabbed into the sides of the back panel, are left folded up and untabbed on his sides. His headlights, normally swiveled and angled up on his chest, are also left untransformed. The large panel (with the fake sculpted grille) underneath his hinged hood pieces also isn't tabbed to the black sliding "spine" behind it, with the results being that his crotch piece tabs only lightly to his waist, detaches easily, dislodges when the front bumper is hinged forward into the indent on its back, and that many packaged Bulkheads are encountered with their flies open.
The Japanese TakaraTomy release of Bulkhead features darker green plastic and paint.
First Edition Bulkhead never made it to shelves in the United States in the initial run, forcing U.S. fans to import the Hasbro version from Canada. Later, Toys"R"Us would pick up Bulkhead, along with most of the rest of the First Edition line, as part of a huge block of exclusives for the US market. However, in summer 2014, he suddenly appeared on Toys"R"Us stores all over Hong Kong in massive quantities.
This mold would have also been redecoed and retooled to make Generations Brawn. While that toy was canceled, the retooled mold eventually saw release as Cloud Brawn.

Cyberverse

  • Bulkhead (Cyberverse Commander, 2012)
    • Series / Number: 2 / 002
    • Takara release date: April 28, 2012
    • Takara ID number: EZ-08
    • Accessories: Battle Mace
Part of the first wave of Prime Cyberverse Commander Class toys, Bulkhead is a smaller-scale toy, and features translucent plastic panels on his hood, roof, and robot back so that the toy can be illuminated by the electronic lights featured in the larger playsets. He comes with a translucent-blue "battle mace" weapon which features four 3mm posts and three post-holes all over, allowing it to be held/mounted into holes on his hands, arms, shoulders/vehicle rear, and roof, or store on his back in robot mode. The Hasbro release features a pack-in file card.
In addition to the regular version, Bulkhead was also released in a special "advance release" assortment alongside Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Starscream, with each figure including a mini-DVD that contains the Transformers: Prime episode "Masters & Students". Yes, all four of them come with the same episode.

Not Shattered Glass Bulkhead.
  • Battle Tactics Bulkhead (Cyberverse Commander, 2012)
    • Series / Number: 2 / 009
    • Accessories: Blast Cannon
Part of the fourth wave of Prime Cyberverse Commander Class toys, Battle Tactics Bulkhead is a redeco of his Cyberverse toy, coming in dark blue with cyan highlights. Instead of his battle mace, he comes with a "blast cannon", a translucent-blue cannon resembling his in-show cannon-barrel. The cannon features two 3mm posts and two mounting points.

  • Autobot Set (EZ Collection 6-pack, 2012-11-24)
    • ID number: EZ-SP1
    • Accessories: Battle Mace
A redeco of Bulkhead was only available in a TakaraTomy EZ Collection six-pack with Bumblebee, Ratchet, Optimus Prime, Arcee, and Wheeljack. Unlike the regular release, This Bulkhead features metallic green plastic.

But, there is one they fear... In their tongue, he is Dovahkiin... Dragonborn!
  • Bulkhead (Cyberverse Commander, 2013)
    • Series / Number: 3 / 003
    • Accessories: Launcher & missile (combine to form Nova Hammer)
Part of the first wave of Prime: Beast Hunters Commander Class toys, Bulkhead is a redeco and extensive retool of his Cyberverse toy, transforming into a heavily-modified armored truck with massive spikes on the fenders. He has 3mm ports in many of the same places as the previous toy, and his vehicle doors have been retooled with additional ports. His color scheme is similar to Generation 1 Roadbuster.
He now comes with a two-piece "Nova Hammer", a hammer with a very obvious axe-bladed head. The "hammer" can be held at the handle, with the handle featuring a narrow central section to allow it to be safely wedged into Bulkhead's hands, while a thicker 3mm section below the narrow part allows it to be held more securely. The weapon's head can launch the attached handle as a missile via pressure-launch, and the head/launcher features a 3mm peg-hole and two posts.
Whether it's due to incomplete instructions or alternative transformations, Bulkhead's instructions tell you to leave his wheel "wings" swung down onto his back.

Robots in Disguise

Bulkhead's been working out, even taking some advice from Ironhide about tricking out his truck.
Meanwhile, in Japan, Bulk takes a minimalist approach to accessorizing.
  • Bulkhead (Voyager Class, 2012)
    • Series / Number: 01 / 004
    • Takara release date: April 28, 2012
    • Takara ID number: AM-10
    • Accessories: Cannon/wrecking ball & battle ram (Hasbro only), "B.H." Arms Micron (TakaraTomy only)
Part of the second wave of Prime: Robots in Disguise Voyager Class toys, Bulkhead is a new, smaller mold. He now comes with a "battle ram" and a half-translucent cannon with a fully translucent wrecking ball on top, both of which can be mounted (via 5mm posts) on either his roof/back, arms, or hands, with both weapons also featuring an assortment of 5mm peg-holes. The cannon can transform into a spinning wrecking ball that's illuminated by a red LED as a sort of "Energon glow", and as with other Robots in Disguise Voyager Class toys, the deployed weapon cannot lock into place. Interestingly, the mouthplate on his face is a separate, jointed, unpainted piece that can flip up to cover his face. Unfortunately, he lacks the lower half of his face, so there's nothing to see there.
His prototype stock photography lacks the Autobot symbol that's on his right shoulder-pad in the final product. His instructions also incorrectly show his completed vehicle mode's bumper with his crotch flap still flipped up, and they also neglect to mention that his door windows/shoulder pads can open up to help cover his shoulders.
Part of the third assortment of TakaraTomy Prime toys, the Japanese release of Bulkhead is cast in metallic plastic, features painted rims, and drops many of his other paint operations in favor of customer-applied foil stickers. He also has 5mm post-holes added to his vehicle mode doors as part of the Arms Micron gimmick. Instead of either of the accessories from the Hasbro version, he instead comes with his Arms Micron partner, B.H., who transforms into a larger version of Bulkhead's wrecking ball, though with a short plastic chain with handle on one end, emulating Animated Bulkhead's cable-tethered wrecking-ball weapon.
This mold also served as the basis of the non-toy Beast Wars: Uprising incarnation of Cryotek. This figure's design also served as a basis as Bulkhead’s new appearance in the Robots in Disguise 2015 cartoon.

Beast Hunters

Bulkhead was always a big Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan.
  • Bulkhead (Deluxe Class, 2013)
    • Series / Number: 2 / 007
    • Accessories: Dragon Grinder
Part of the second wave of Prime: Beast Hunters Deluxe Class toys, Bulkhead is a new, smaller mold, and transforms into a heavily-modified off-road truck with spikes/drills on the fenders. His robot chest features narrow chest windows in a similar style to Animated Bulkhead. He comes with the "Dragon Grinder", a circular saw which can be spun at the push of a button. It features a sculpted dragon head on top of its housing, and the weapon can mount via its 5mm peg. Bulkhead features 5mm peg-holes on his hands and forearms, as well as on his roof and doors (which end up on his back in robot mode).
His "collar" tends to rub against his windshield-hood joint during transformation, which means that the paint on the tip of the collar has a bad habit of being scraped off.
His instructions incorrectly show his completed vehicle mode's bumper with his crotch flap still flipped up. They also include the ninth chapter of the Tales of the Beast Hunters series.
This mold also served as the model for the non-toy Beast Wars: Uprising incarnation of Bighorn.

Construct-Bots

  • Bulkhead with Airazor and Wolfang (Triple Team, 2013)
    • Accessories: Mace, Hammer
Bulkhead was released as part of the Beast Hunters subline of Construct-Bots, packaged with two smaller partners Airazor and Wolfang. He can transform from a military jeep looking thing into a robot. Airazor can transform into an axe for him or Wolfang to wield. He comes with wrecking ball and weapons which he can hold in his hands.
Like most Beast Hunters Construct-Bots, Bulkhead and friends never saw release in the United States.

Go!

  • Hunter Bulkhead (Deluxe, 2013-04-27)
    • ID number: G15
    • Accessories: "Hunting Saw"
Part of the first wave of TakaraTomy Transformers Go! toys, Hunter Bulkhead is a redeco of the "Beast Hunters" Deluxe Class Bulkhead toy, and features a predominantly green and gray/silver color scheme.

Hero Mashers

...oh no. We just got the Cliffjumper connection. Bulkhead no.
  • Bulkhead (Battle Upgrade, 2014)
    • Pieces: 15
    • Accessories: Backpack, pile-driver, missile, hammer, "Cliffjumper" left forearm
Part of the first wave of "Battle Upgrade" Hero Mashers toys, Bulkhead is a non-transforming action figure with ratchet-joints, about six inches tall. His design is mostly based on Prime Bulkhead, but with the gentle and caring mug of Animated Bulkhead. He has multiple peg-holes all over that can be used to mount any Hero Mashers accessory. As a first-wave figure, he has extra ankle articulation that is not present in later waves (a cut that was made to all Hero Mashers lines, not just the Transformers-branded ones).
He is designed with a removable head, forearms, thighs, and lower legs, all of which use the same clip-peg/hole joint. This means his pieces can be swapped around in any order, as well as swapped with any other Hero Mashers figure... which includes figures from Marvel Comics, Star Wars, and Jurassic World, meaning you can make some pretty freaky combinations.
While he is (roughly) the same size as a standard Hero Masher, his larger price point is made up for with a lot more parts and gimmicks. His right forearm has a built-in spring-loaded missile launcher. Both of his hands are removable, which allows for accessories to be placed in his wrist sockets. He also comes with Cliffjumper's left arm, which is a redeco of Hero Mashers Bumblebee's.
His forearm with the built-in launcher is included with Battle Upgrade Optimus Prime, just recolored, gimmick-neutered and labeled belonging to Ultra Magnus.

Legacy

All he needs are some John Goodman sound clips, and we've got a deal!
  • Prime Universe Bulkhead (Voyager Class, 2022)
    • TakaraTomy ID number: TL-03
    • TakaraTomy release date: July 30, 2022
    • Accessories: Energon machine gun, battle mace, tarp cover
Part of the first wave of Legacy Voyager Class toys, "Prime Universe Bulkhead" is a Generations-styled version of the character that transforms into an approximation of a Rába H18 military truck, which echoes Age of Extinction Hound's vehicle mode, in 30 steps. He comes with a mace covered in 5mm ports that opens up to wrap around his fist; a tarp that forms the rear of his vehicle mode, which can be used as a shield in robot mode; and a clear-blue Energon machine gun that can mount on his shoulder. In a rarity for Generations toys of the last few years, he features fully-concealed weapon storage in alternate mode, with both his mace and gun stowing "inside" his truck bed, under the tarp. Interestingly, he features Armada-style Powerlinx ports on the tarp.
Due to the new windowless packaging featured in the Legacy Line, it is not uncommon to find Bulkhead with his head forced down into his chest cavity, making it appear as though the figure is missing his head. The head can still be seen within the chest cavity however.
This figure was revealed by IGN as a teaser for the Legacy line on October 20, 2021,[1] ahead of PulseCon 2021. Bulkhead was discovered on shelves in France in late January.

  • Prime Universe Bulkhead (Voyager Class, 2022)
    • Accessories: Black machine gun, battle hammer, tarp cover
The fourth pack released in the Legacy Wreck N' Rule Collection, this version of "Prime Universe Bulkhead" is a redeco of the above toy in a "military camo" color scheme. Bulkhead now comes with a new hammer accessory resembling his arch-nemesis Breakdown's, and his machine gun is now opaque black.
In the United States, Bulkhead was exclusively released in the Amazon Wreck N' Rule Collection, with Bulkhead being revealed on May 12, 2022. All packs in the Wreck N' Rule Collection contain a piece of the Wreckers' hammer insignia, with this pack having an unknown piece, as well as the box art being able to be put together to form a display piece.

Merchandise

McDonald's

Shake, battle and roll.
  • Shake Bulkhead (Phone charm, 2011)
Part of the "Transformers x McDonald's" promotion for Dark of the Moon, "Shake Bulkhead" is a "phone charm" toy that looks like a tall cool frosty shake, but pops open to reveal Prime Bulkhead.
This toy, as well as "Burger Optimus", was a bit of a chore to obtain. First you had to buy a Happy Meal on July 30th or 31st, which netted you a Dark of the Moon Optimus Prime or Bumblebee toy and a "weekend exclusive Special DVD and MechTech Sheet with red ticket". Said ticket was then traded in at participating toy stores when buying any Dark of the Moon toy to get one of the two charms. (Completing the set with "Potato Bumblebee" was considerably easier, at least.)

Tastes like cardboard! ...oh, it is cardboard.
  • Bulkhead (Happy Meal, 2012)
    • McNumber: 5
    • Accessories: 3 discs
Happy Meal Bulkhead is a non-transformable offroad vehicle! He comes with three paper discs which can be inserted under his hood. When the roof is pulled back, one is expelled.

Kinder Surprise

  • Transformers: Prime (2014)
Only available inside a blindpacked chocolate egg as part of Kinder's Transformers: Prime series, this buildable Bulkhead mini-figure consists of a generic "cog" onto which his limbs and armor can be clipped to construct him. He has articulation on his shoulders and upper legs.

Thrilling 30

  • Bulkhead (Collectible Figurine, 2014)
    • Series / Number: 1 / #10
    • Accessories: Collector's base
A super-deformed Bulkhead was released among the blindpacked Thrilling 30 Collectible Figurines by Goldie Marketing. He comes with a base to help him stand, a collector's card that doubles as a puzzle piece, and a checklist.

  • Collectible Figurines (5-pack, 2014)
    • Series: 1
    • Accessories: 5 collector's bases
The same Bulkhead figurine was also available in a five-pack alongside the Prime versions of Optimus Prime, Megatron, Ratchet and Starscream.

Tiny Titans

Weapon on loan from Hound.
  • Bulkhead (Tiny titans, 2015)
    • Series: 4
    • Number: 6/12
Part of the fourth assortment of Tiny Titans blindpacks, this version of Bulkhead is a very small, minimally-painted soft-plastic figure of him in robot mode, brandishing a rather huge gatling-like cannon.
He includes a collectible card that renders him in the 2015 Robots in Disguise styling. The card includes a scan-badge for the Robots in Disguise mobile game, which unlocks a random amount of Energon "currency" and a randomized bonus power-up item.
This wave saw fairly minimal release at "big box" retailers, but unlike other waves, was not picked up by drug stores and the like later, making them particularly hard to find.

Notes

Bulkhead was originally going to appear in Dark of the Moon instead of Ironhide, but they thought it'd confuse kids to have him die in the movie if he was still alive in the show.

Arms Up Modes

In the Japanese Prime toyline, Bulkhead has named powered-up modes when given various Arms Microns in certain configurations:

  • Berserk Mode (バーサークモード Bāsāku Mōdo)
    • Arms Microns: Arc, B.B., B.H., C.L., O.P., R.A.
Seen on his box-back photo, in this mode Bulkhead holds the Nebula Scythe, with R.A. attached to his right arm, B.B. on his right shoulder, and C.L. attached to the mounting point behind his head.
  • Shootgize Galaxy Launcher (シュートジアイズガラクシーランチャー Shūtojiaizu Garakushī Ranchā)
    • Arms Microns: Arc, B.B., B.H., C.L., Gora, O.P., Zori
Yyyyeah. Revealed in the Cybertron Satellite portion of "Freezing Transformation!? Terror of the Minicons", in this battle mode Bulkhead holds the Galaxy Launcher Super Combo Weapon, while he's also got O.P. on his left forearm, B.B. on his back, and inexplicably Gora on his right forearm with Zori also on his back. And as far as can be told, "Shootgize" seems to be a bad portmanteau of "shoot" and "energize".
