Command codes are the key words Transformers use to transform their alternate mode and robot mode.

Fiction

Beast Wars

As part of the Great Upgrade, the Autobots and Decepticons turned Maximals and Predacons installed onboard computers into their systems. These computers would handle a variety of functions, such as transformation. Each faction had it's own unique code: Maximals would shout "Maximize", while Predacons would shout "Terrorize". Obviously, they put a great deal of thought into the words they chose. Beast Wars, Part 1 However, Transformers from this period often transform without speaking their command codes, so it is unclear how necessary they are. It is possible that they still need to "think" the command code, even if they do not say it audibly.

Beast Machines

After being reformatted into technorganic bodies, command codes were not carried over with the Maximals. The Maximals thus had to find an emotional still point to achieve transformation. To help, they would often say "I am transformed", but this was purely for mental control, and not a command code. The Reformatting

Vehicon drones did not have command codes, but the Vehicon generals each had a unique code:

Trivia

  • Many subsequent fictions have often had Transformers shouting "Transform!" when they transform, but these do not appear to be command codes. In the Cybertron episode City, Optimus Prime says that it's merely a good way to get psyched up.
