The Decepticon Trailer Corps and the Stunticons ruin the Autobots with bad publicity! Yes, there IS such a thing as bad publicity.
Synopsis
[edit]In the dead of night, a fleet of Autobot vehicles destroy a Japanese industrial park, leaving behind a letter reading "Courtesy of the Autobots" that's signed by Optimus Prime! More destruction is later caused by these so-called Autobots who leave behind more calling cards (this time signed by Ultra Magnus).
The next morning, at Kenji's elementary school, his classmates are convinced that the Autobots are evil. Kenji defends his buddies, though his rival, Makoto, praises the glory of the Decepticons.
Walking home, Kenji catches a ride from Tailgate. Kenji explains the situation to him, but Tailgate reminds him that he's an honorary Autobot and shouldn't worry. Their conversation is cut short when they happen upon a large crowd. The people are cheering and praising a pair of hooded figures who are glorifying the Decepticons as true heroes and decrying the Autobots as villains.
As the crowd works itself up, they are suddenly attacked by the mysterious "Autobots" who have been destroying factories. Before they can cause too much damage, Optimus Prime arrives with Hot Spot, Inferno and Prowl. Hot Spot and Inferno use their hoses to wash the phony Autobot insignias off the imposters, revealing the Stunticons and the Decepticon Trailer Corps (Onslaught and Motormaster)! Prowl then releases Eject and Rewind, who unmask the hooded figures as Rumble and Frenzy and quickly subdue them.
Worried, Onslaught advises Motormaster to form Menasor. That plan falls apart once they notice that all the Stunticons have fled the battle. With no other option, the Decepticon Trailer Corps decide to access the "Decepticon Trailer Combination". Motormaster climbs on to Onslaught's shoulders and the two create the (sigh) "Decepticon Great Wheel".
Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus attempt to fight the whirling wheel, but cannot get a fix on it because it's moving too fast. Kenji then orders Hot Spot to launch the Great Wheel with his ladder at Inferno, who then hits it with his ladder like a baseball. This leaves Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime the opening to finish the battle with the (sigh) "Prime-Magnus Finish Double".
Onslaught and Motormaster are then launched way out into the Pacific Ocean where they land on the deck of Megatron's ship. Megatron is not amused.

Notes
[edit]- This issue takes place before the "Scramble City: Mobilization" OVA.
- Humans have mistaken the Stunticons for Autobots before in "The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2". Except that time they didn't have fake Autobot insignias on.
- Kenji uses his Ultra Magnus-themed wrist-communicator while arguing with Makoto, but oddly, Makoto counters with his Galvatron-themed wrist-communicator. Obviously, from a story standpoint, Galvatron should not exist yet. At the time, Hasbro was making it a point to keep Galvatron's identity a secret (hence the rank of City Commander), even from Takara. This resulted in Takara advertising the Galvatron toy as a subordinate of Megatron's in quite a few places. This inconsistency was later retconned, but the wackiness still remains. Try not to think about it.
- On a related note, what is Makoto doing with a Decepticon wrist-communicator? While in the real world, the "wrist-communicators" were actually a series of transforming watches, in the fiction they served as a means to speak with and summon the Transformer the communicator was shaped like. Perhaps Makoto was given the communicator by Rumble and Frenzy during one of their earlier public demonstrations? Who knows.
