The Mediawiki magic word {{SITENAME}} returns the full name of this website; MediaWiki.

That's really, really, really long.

{{SITENAME SMALL}} (or {{SITENAME_SMALL}}, same difference) return the much shorter; Template:SITENAME SMALL.

There's no real reason you couldn't just write it out manually (ex the common tendency to misspell Teletron) but calling it like this serves the same purpose calling {{SITENAME}} does- providing easy forward-computability in the event this site ever chooses to change it's name to something else like "Witwickypedia."
