Takehiko Itō (伊東岳彦 Itō Takehiko),[1] pen name Hiroyuki Hataike (幡池裕行 Hataike Hiroyuki), is a prolific Japanese comic artist and mechanical designer who has contributed to a variety of prominent sci-fi projects such as Gunbuster and Patlabor, but is probably best known for his creator-owned work Outlaw Star. In the world of Transformers, he is best known as the man who designed "Planet-Robot," the earliest known draft of the concept that would become Unicron.[2] Before working on the Transformers brand proper, he provided TakaraTomy with illustration work for the pre-Transformer franchise Diaclone.
