During the intermezzo between the second defeat of Unicron and the hunt for the Cyber Planet Keys, Wing Saber and Optimus Prime were involved in a rescue mission within the Chaar asteroid belt. Under desperate pressure to save the life of a spacefarer, they flew back-to-back with each other in an attempt to escape the asteroid field and get the spaceman to safety. Wing Saber was thrown off from formation and nearly collided with a huge asteroid, but was apparently saved by Prime. United

Notes

• In the Galaxy Force version of the episode, the action did not concern an event in the asteroid belt per se, but an incident at the planet "Astrea", which was evidently the metal sphere Prime and Wing Saber were standing on at the start of the flashback. As the "planet" didn't seem much bigger than they were, it's not hard to see why the circumstances were changed.
• Just where the spaceman came from is never addressed in the dub.
• The episode seems to imply that Wing Saber and Optimus linked up into Sonic Wing Mode for the first time during the Chaar incident, as Wing Saber slams into Prime a couple of times in the present day in an apparent attempt to merge with him again. However, they are never actually seen combining in the flashback.
