IIRC (heh), Abates has a way to deal with it, but he needs access to the database for it, and every time he's asked, nobody who can grant that access has responded. --Jeysie 03:48, 17 December 2009 (EST)

I did send the fix directly to McFly a while back, and last I heard (about 5 months or so back) he was talking about putting it in when he and Scout upgraded Mediawiki. That's all I know at this point. --abates 04:31, 17 December 2009 (EST)

Kind of interesting to see that even through all the new series and everything, we seem to average something like 1000 articles every six months, just eyeballing it. --Jeysie 00:51, 3 July 2010 (EDT)

I like this idea. Although I admit it is hard to figure out where. My organizational side wants to put it up near or in the disambig where the number is, but there's no real good visual spot there...

I would suggest using the Factions template for a linky icon, except we don't have an H1 to set it on any more. Dang it.

Numbers

26,000th page

I only noticed this was something people wanted to know when the page was just updated, but I know I made Dingledeedoo the 26,000th page. I don't have anyway to prove it, but I didn't say anything bc I thought the wiki editors had a means to determine it. SoundJack426 (talk) 06:20, 11 August 2022 (EDT)

Late response: Well, the problem with counting milestones on this site's sytem is that the total article counter on the front page will accumulate a drift over time from page moves, namespaces pending deletion, redirects getting restored, or some such things. Every so often, an admin such as abates has to not only recalibrate the front page counter but possibly also clear the deletion queue. As I understand it, manually counting backwards among new pages in the "Recent changes" log is somewhat arbitrary because of mergers and deletions will affect the count in between checks for milestones. Unfortunately, when we got to 26000, I was not paying attention that month to ask abates to check the counter and clear the deletion queue to make sure it was in fact 26000. Future milestones

Pending a long queue of deletions which need to be cleared out by an admin, we are fast approaching article number 30,000. So I ask, is there motivation among the userbase to track and designate it? I feel like every time I have brought up this issue on Discord in the past half-decade, more than one person shot me down to say they no longer cared about thousand-article milestones. And amusingly, I think I was stymied on milestone 28,000 or 29,000 because that was the week the wiki undertook the massive restoration of GoBots character articles from redirects. S.H.I.E.L.D.
