Richard Ayoade (born May 23, 1977) is a British comedian and filmmaker who rose to fame for his lead role on the sitcom The IT Crowd, a part he reprised in an unaired pilot for an American remake. His onscreen roles also include Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh, The Watch, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, while his presenting credits include Gadget Man, Travel Man, and The Crystal Maze.

Ayoade has directed various music videos, plus an episode of Community (starring Danny Pudi), the coming-of-age comedy-drama film Submarine, and the black comedy The Double. His voice acting projects have included The Boxtrolls, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Soul, The Bad Guys, The Mandalorian, Disenchantment, the Rugrats reboot, and the upcoming Fable game.

Notes

  • Ayoade provided a blurb for IT Crowd creator-turned-obsessed transphobe Graham Linehan's memoir in 2023, something that's especially ironic given the transphobic/enbyphobic backlash EarthSpark received for introducing Nightshade the same year.
